He’s just plain wrong. There were several written systems developed in Africa; Meroitic and Ge’ez were both developed in Africa.

Those were derived from the ancient civilizations near Nubia and Ethiopia, peoples who had contact with ancient Egypt and the Muslim world. Any written languages from sub-Saharan Africa, or the interior?

I think Ethiopia qualifies as sub-Saharan. Ge’ez is used there.

And what’s the big deal about contact with ancient Egypt? Its not like our written language doesn’t eventually go all the way back to the Phonecians.
