True story

I went to high school with a guy that was obviously some kind of mathematical genius. He could simply look at a geometrical shape and tell you how you would compute lengths. Even the teachers couldn't believe the way he was able to grasp mathematical concepts.

I ran into him about ten years later. He was working at a fried chicken restaurant.

Why did he do nothing with his life? He was Hispanic, and in the STRICT Hispanic culture, there is a belied that if you even want to achieve more than your father, it is an INSULT to your father. When this guy graduated the teachers BEGGED his mother to let him go to college. Said based on his math abilities they could get him a scholarship. Mom said no. No way she would to that to his father.

Madness.

One more reason to slow down immigration - folks who come here need to come BECAUSE they want to be American ... not just for a paycheck. Hispanics have an excuse - it's tradition. Blacks became this way because of liberal perverse incentives... guess in some ways that's an excuse too...
