The Democrats want #2 and the Republicans want #3,

Both will lead to a revolution...

And I’m the almost 60 yr old guy w/ his savings in a couple of bank accounts, some company stock, the condo, and a 401K....because I don’t know what else to do w/ it. Buy gold/silver/other commodoties? Except really, I don’t know enough to risk it in a basket of various investments. Which is the right way to play this?? Staying put is worrisome, as it looks like my retirement will be eaten away by inflation and an eventual market plunge.

Japan has seen deflation for each of the past 22 years, so clearly there are other options instead of hyper-inflation and default.

Outcome number 6: The rise of a very charasmatic world leader who has all the answers and will bring about a golden age for about three-and-a-half years.

The whole tone of this article seems to be that governments are the source of wealth (the opposite of "austerity") and that government policies are the main factor in determining employment.

It is a fact that the majority of people have bought into this nonsense. What is not a fact is that this myth can be indefinitely extended.

The social upheaval necessary to re-educate the people will be very severe, I think. Many people will be wondering where their next meal is coming from and will be disappointed that the government is unable to provide it.

It’s public debt, Not counting on a public pension, Have a cash business & a 1 acre vegie garden. (for 2) Very little debt and count on the govt for almost nothing.
Also a nice supply of amo. Nice supply of diesel, lots of firewood and a running creek.
Not a real smart guy, But I believed the people several yrs ago who said this was coming.
One more dive before the revolution?

These folks are still Keynesians and believe that government management of the economy is the only way an economy can function. They just have to “get it right.” It is like Communism. All the failures in history do not make a bit of difference. Those guys just didn’t do it right. We the new iteration, will do “do it right.”

Try the permanent portfolio if you’re tired of the zigs and zags of the market.

What should be discussed is what actions an individual citizen should take to ride this out. A sub question is what should a retiree or someone just about to retire do?

In my humble opinion, we are stumbling into WWIII and are too dumb to know it. The dispossessed, the hungry, those who have nothing to lose will be armed by a charismatic leader who will try to take control or the world.

Hmm. Constitutional government would be considered austerity.

My belief is that we will have inflation—That means you will still get your welfare check but it will not buy squat. people will riot and burn—this will make new jobs in private security, jails and guards, construction to re build burned structures and gun manufactures. The nation will swing left with “programs” to help the rioters. Crime will go up with some states becoming almost semi-independent. The the whole nation will swing the other was—and vote in a charismatic leader who will pull the nation into a neo-Fascist state. This man will be a hero to many. He will re-build the nation, return factories, rebuild the cities—but at a cost to freedoms. Alaska will be used as a penal colony for all who oppose “The Leader” —Think not so much Hitler as Juan Peron and Evita. It will be great fun for a while. We will have songs to sing, torchlight parades—lots of new jobs—even a new Dollar! Then will come the wars of expansion. This “New Order” will be a return of America to something more like the 1950s. We will all get to wear hats! The Leader? He will be a big war hero, a great speaker, he will be a man of ideas, and able to lead. That is my take on the future

If it hasn't seen extreme heat, it should still be good. Today's canned food, if kept at 75 degrees or less, should last 30 years.
