Our recent story about the increasing trend of families leaving the city once their kids hit school age garnered a lot of attention inside and outside City Hall.
As we noted, despite years of policy initiatives by city and school officials, new census figures show 5,278 fewer kids living in the city in 2010 than in 2000. That means just 13.4 percent of San Francisco residents are kids - one of the lowest percentages of any city in the country.
Is it just a given that not many kids will grow up in the city, or can more be done?

They’re doing plenty. Like Cloward-Pliven, their plans are right on track.
My most liberal friends will not send their kids to public schooll in SF. Perhaps they are not all that liberal, afterall.
Children need to be protected from the democrat party vermin who run San Francisco.
Families flee out of this evil city in order to give their children a chance at a decent life.
OF COURSE THEY DO.
It’s not like SF schools are going to lay off any activist teachers, or cut revenue sources for the Democrat Party.
Would you just LOVE raising your children in such a den of iniquity? It would make them very ‘well-rounded’, doncha think??
Why bring your children up to be bait for the predators?
Maybe the parents are looking for school districts that offer more courses in gay awareness.
Gosh, maybe parents want their kids to grow up to be normal by knowing the difference between mom and dad?
Good point.
In today’s politically correct world, any criticism of the homosexual community is verboten.
But, could it be that many of these families don’t want their kids exposed to such flagrant open homosexuality as is found in San Francisco?
If they don’t want their kids exposed to same, we’ll never know, because it would be politically incorrect to say so.
A family friend, a “yuppie” who tends to be liberal, lived in a gay oriented neighborhood in Baltimore for a number of years. She said she felt safer in that neighborhood than other city neighborhoods. She did not feel physically uncomfortable among the gay men, as she would have among other strange men in a big city. But, she and her husband ended up in suburbia when it came time to raise the family.
Is there anything wrong with families exercising their free choice about where to live? Why are San Fran. officials panties in a twist over this issue? S.F. is a liberal mecca in many ways. Liberal meccas aren’t always family friendly. I wonder if the people in The Castro would really welcome numerous families moving in. I can just hear them lamenting that the spirit of Stonewall faded away and all that, if it were no longer a homosexual oriented neighborhood.
Men sodomizing each other produces AIDS, not children.
Get the kids OUT and then NUKE SF FROM ORBIT. JUST TO BE SURE.
Given that it’s SF, their first thought will probably be to pass a law prohibiting people with school-age kids from leaving.
The leftist parasite will invariably kill the host. Happens every time.
It’s in the slavery books of those demon possessed squatted squatters. THey will seek to make it mandatory, to prevent people from living without a passport Soviet style, and they will make homosexuality not a choice but a mandate.
This is how government works and means by “protecting”.
Just like when the black plague hit Europe, those towns that were clean and protected themselves will be hit by those who will throw dead plagued bodies into their living quarters, so as to make them share the death, as in share the wealth and redistribute.
That satan Obama is of course behind all this with his cohort of evil twits and betraying coward RINOs to boot. If the plague is good enough for them, they will thrust it on us.
The government has become a rotten squatting cockroach of uselessness and rambunctiousness. They should no more get the “priorities” we granted them to get the job done.
Besides, this allows the government to hire additional bureaucrats to add to the pile already hired in order to fight the newly discovered choices that must be eradicated.
See the recent law in SF to forbid child circumcision. Another choice by individuals to be rigorously suppressed.
It’s not the laws, it’s the “people” living there. Rabid animals.
One of the best lines of any movie. And a good political strategy as well.
