I always found the story of the horse survivor, Commanche, interesting.He was severely wounded during the battle, and orders were given that he never be riden again. I think only he and Black Jack were buried with full military honors.

Commanche was prepared by a taxidermist after death, and is on display at the University of Kansas in Lawrence..
