ALBANY Gay marriage will come to a pivotal vote in the state Senate tonight, Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos (R-Nassau) said in a statement released just moments ago.
The statement was distributed after Republican senators spent hours huddled behind closed doors weighing several remaining issues, including stronger religious exemptions they insisted be included in the same-sex marriage legislation.

These people love to do their dirty work on Friday nights.
Yup. They sure do.

“These people love to do their dirty work on Friday nights.”
Sounds like a “done deal” to me....
But hey — what do you expect?
It’s New York!
Just sayin’...
“If the NY Senate Passes Gay Marriage, Its Republicans Who Will Take the Heat
By Ruben Diaz & Michael Long
June 22, 2011 10:05 A.M.
We are two lifelong New Yorkers who do not agree about many things. We are of different races, religions, and political parties. One of us is a Bronx liberal Democrat, the other of us heads the Conservative party.
But we agree on at least three great truths:
First, marriage is and should remain the union of husband and wife. Same-sex marriage is a government takeover of an institution the government did not create and should not redefine.
Second, gay marriage is not inevitable. snip as Senator Diaz said, that if a gay-marriage bill passes it will be because the GOP caved for no discernible good reason at all.
Third, snip.. If gay marriage passes, it is Republicans across the state who will pay the biggest price.
snip The decision of senate Republicans to take up this bill, and thus help enable Governor Cuomos goal to pass gay marriage, will affect the way voters across the state view the Republican party especially if Republican state senators told voters one thing during the campaign, and now propose to change their votes at Governor Cuomos behest.”
RINOs are a silly and stupid breed of weaklings.
I’m listening to/watching a live stream of the debate now ongoing in the NYS senate.
Senator Stephen Saland (R,I,C) is describing the additions to the bill designed to “protect” religious organizations from this travesty.
Well just great. What about ME, Senator? Do I get an exemption? If not, why not? My beliefs are just as firmly held as any church’s. If I’m a business owner, do I have to bake a cake for Susie and Joan when they want to get “married?” Do I have to allow my children to learn about how there is no difference between a homosexual “marriage” and a normal one? (This is a hypothetical, as I would never allow my children to attend public school.)
I don’t know Senator Saland, but he seems to me to really be pushing this, and trying to convince everybody that it’s all gunna be OK. Well...I don’t think it’s gunna be OK at all. I think the fix is in, and we’re about to get saddled with this crappy bill.
He’s wrapping it up now...thanking Andy Cuomo. Yup. voting Yes. A true RINO. (And he had Conservative Party backing!!)
I think I’m going to hurl.
Regards,
I LOVE your passion, and also worry about the rights of INDIVIDUAL business people, like yourself, who don’t want to participate any way for homosexual “weddings.”
I left the NY Conservative Party because they are NOT 100% pro-life, sadly, but they did finally endorse Paladino, rather than Cuomo.
>> including stronger religious exemptions
These #s know the exemptions are bullcrap. These #s are condemning the entire State into supporting homosexual marriage. These #s can go to hell.
Thank you, Sun. I appreciate the kind sentiments. It’s been a bad day for me here in NY. Again.
At least my own senator voted against it. I’m a little surprised, ‘cause even though he’s a Republican who also had the Conservative endorsement...he’s a pretty big nanny statist.
Meanwhile, I can’t WAIT to get out of this crappy state.
Regards,
Welll Gene, I’m having trouble disagreeing with you there. I don’t normally say “go to Hell” (all that Catholic upbringing, you know), but...I understand where you’re coming from.
Regards,
My senator is also a strong social conservative, and always has been, but I hope the RINOs get primaried out!
I feel like vomitting.
