Obama announces new partnership to boost American manufacturing

President Obama took his jobs pitch to Pittsburgh Friday, announcing a manufacturing partnership aimed at reviving a key sector of the American economy.

The Advanced Manufacturing Partnership is designed to team government, industry and higher education together to fund new technologies. Obama's plan calls for an initial $500 million down payment toward that effort.

Speaking at Carnegie Mellon University, Obama said the Steel City is a living example of how manufacturing helped build the middle class in America, and said the country must continue investing in new technologies to sustain it.

"Here and across America's industrial heartland, millions clocked in each day at foundries and on assembly lines to make things. And the stuff we made -- steel, cars, planes -- was the stuff that made America what it is," he said.

But evolving technology and globalization mean the U.S. must continue to invest to compete, Obama said.

"We have not run out of stuff to make; we've just got to reinvigorate our manufacturing sector so that it leads the world the way it always has, from paper and steel and cars to new products that we haven't even dreamed up yet. That's how we're going to strengthen existing industries; that's how we're going to spark new ones," he said.

With Republicans in Congress unwilling to consider any new stimulus measures, Obama has been holding events like Friday's to send the signal to voters he is still taking steps to revive the sputtering economy.

Love it Obama goes to another university where 99% of the stuff you and I fund through grants and tax breaks never benefits man in any way. things like 50 million to discover life on stars 1 million light years away. Most science now is a quest to prove G*d is not real. Perfect environment where the mentally insane like Obama and the egghead set can discuss how we are just 39 years away from 1% of the electricity we generate being produced by camel dung.

Government cannot create value, only transfer it. Taking from one private entity and handing it to another. Government stimulus is the same as taking a blood transfusion from your arm to your leg. Your leg benefits, but your arm might have some issues.

500 million probably won’t cover the cost of whatever new EPA regulations come out next week.

GE, example of government partnership. Treatment of Boeing is an example of what happens if you don't cooperate with Obama governance.

Another 1/2 billion $$$?

I thought the Porkulus spending covered this sham.

Seriously, Obama's nuts. He calls for new technology and yet says ATM machine technology displaces jobs. He's incapable of critical thinking, much less, rational thought.

Nothing is going to help until we get a President who hears the

SUCKING SOUND

of jobs and factories leaving the country.

This statement takes for granted that stimulus works...either dumb or tricky.

An excuse for more spending. Cutting regulations costs nothing.
