OXFORD, Mich. (WXYZ) - A mother and daughter are being treated for bites after the family pit bull went on the attack.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Department says a mother and daughter were arguing early Thursday morning inside their home in Oxford Township. That's when the family dog attacked the daughter. The mother then tried to pull the pit bull away and was also attacked.
Three other children inside the home locked themselves in a closet to keep to hide from the vicious dog.
When deputies arrived at the home the mother was on the porch and the dog was still inside the home. One deputy approached the animal which started growling and showing its teeth. The deputy was forced to shoot the dog which ran out the door. It was later found outside the home and was put down.
An Oakland County Animal Control officer found a second pit bull inside and removed it from the home.
The 39-year-old mother and 16-year-old daughter were treated at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital and released, the children inside the home were not injured.
Said friend at the time was petting Mugsy. I got tired of listening to him laugh and said *get um mugs*. The dog was in his lap and on his face in a split second...stopped him laughing about his dog that had already bit the postman...When I said *down mugs*, immediately got off his lap and wagged his tail...scared the crap out of hubbys buddy....
At times me and all the kids (5) would get my husband on the floor and tickled him until he would be yelling I cannot breath..(due to laughing so hard). The dog was a protector of me and the kids....He was never agressive toward hubby after we all got up off the floor...It was fun...We were younger....

Vanity Post: This may not be appropriate for a Freep dog thread, but in light of the advise here to find a good breeder; we have been trying to find a good breeder for female Shiloh Shepherd pup to be raised in Arizona by our loving family. There are NO such breeders in Arizona that we’ve been able to find. Everything we’ve read indicates it’s a great family / children friendly dog with a big shadow, lots of love, and a small ego. So far we have not been able to get any listed breeder to return our queries. It seems to be a “closed loop” circle of people who breed these animals, and has been a bit frustrating. If anyone happens to know a breeder of these wonderful dogs who would actually respond to our wish to acquire one, we would appreciate some help. We do understand and have planned for that it won’t be inexpensive. Thanks in advance.

Correct attitude, but if it was me, I would be able to go back the next day. Of course, if you told your niece you were going to kill her dog in the next 5 minutes if it did not start acting right, then she might not invite you back anyway.
What should happen is vicious/barking dogs should be hiding when you show up, either because the dog is smart or because the owners don’t want them, uh.., disciplined. I don’t whisper, the dog recognizes my attitude.
I have 8 dogs and I squirt them with a water pistol if they misbehave, started when they were pups. So if they bark, I just motion to the water bottle and they immediately shut up. Uncontrolled dogs should not be tolerated.

Very loyal and loving and protective breed. My mom was talking to a neighbor with my dog at her side (her dog previously) when the neighbors 300 lb pig got too close.
She was trained to keep the pigs off the fence line - and to beat them up if they got into the yard - so she had a history with pigs and general approval to commit violence against them.
When the pig tried to get too close my mom said “GO AWAY PIG!” with a disgusted tone.
My dog interpreted that to mean “PIG MUST DIE!”
She knocked the pig over - let me repeat that for those that know a thing or two about pigs - she knocked the pig OVER - and bit the hell out of it and wasn’t letting it get back up.
My mom called her off and she complied immediately.
Another telling difference between a Bull Mastiff and a Pit Bull - while both are quite capable of violence and somewhat prone to violence - one is easily called off - the other apparently starts violence against its owner rather than quit.
Dog pounds are full of pre-owned (slightly used) pit bulls. If you think you need a dog you can get a pit bull probably under one hour, including driving time. On the other hand, if you want a Newfoundland (my relatives had one decades ago) you need to jump through hoops (literally, especially after you get the dog,) join the club, wait a year, etc. etc. At least that's what they had to do in 1970's - don't know if things changed.
I'd kick yer ass to the curb and if you had any brains you would know that you were never welcome back.

When you hear a Bull Mastiff bark for real - you are grateful that they seldom do so - and only with necessity.

The only dog that ever tried to bite me was a toy chihuahua. Most dog bites are from smaller breeds. However, feel free to allow the government to choose your next dog. Good luck!
Unfortunately pit bulls are an indicator of destruction of our society.
My parents had a disagreement, nothing serious, not even raised voices, but their German Shepherd sensed the tension and moved between them to sit in front of my mother with his head cocked staring at my stepfather. The rest of the day he stayed very close to mother.
Funny thing is they seldom disagreed and never got very heated when they did but that day the dog noticed some tension, did not like it and made them aware that he was there to defend and protect his mistress.
It is also not advisable to fight around a German Shepherd.
My former husband and I were the Alpha's, and our dog was very upset when we “played rough”.
My former husband insisted on training our dog to always protect me first, no matter who was “attacking”.
Our dog was very effective in stopping our “play fights” while never actually physically harming my husband, although my very large mate was routinely, gently forced to the ground. But only my husband could get away relatively unscathed with “play fighting” me.
We didn't allow anyone else to “play fight” either of us in our dogs presence, after one test run with a friend wearing appropriate protective gear.
I love dogs, but all canine breeds require lots of love, intensive training, and constant attention to be truly safe family pets. I have only the one cat now.
