Sorry, found dupe thread (although search didn’t find) ...

The same reason Obama invaded Libya.
The same reason he’s support Brazil’s drilling efforts.
Exactly! This move is like the mayor taking water reserves from the fire department so people can more easily water their lawns.
Now that the precedent has been established, I suppose this dangerous political move will become common from now on.
More strategery from the 2012 Obama political campaign.
You gotta spread the wealth, don-cha-know. Ask Joe the Plumber, Zero told him...
It looks like we're using it for a "kitty".
well obviously the Dems have come up with their Hail Mary Pass to try and save Obama’s bacon
Obama can't take responsibility and the MSM plays along.
It's THE DOJ that is racist about voter intimidation and also provides weapons to drug cartels to kill Americans—not Obama.
It is the NLRB that acts like a fascist outfit telling businesses where they can build-not Obama.
It is the EPA that is going to wreck the economy with crippling new regulation in accordance with the outlandish hoax of man caused global warming-not Obama.
There are more but suffice it to say,ALL the antiAmerican Marxist acts performed by THIS ADMINISTRATION are OBAMA'S--not The US's!
“......ongoing loss of crude oil due to supply disruptions in Libya ....”
Hmmm.... What could have possibly caused that?
Well, at least this will solve our energy problem and keep the price of gas down to around $4 to $5 per gallon. At least it won’t get expensive.
It’s a good thing we have Obama looking out for us or I would worry about national security, should we the lack sufficient oil for our nations “strategic reserve” needs.
Do our fighter jets, ships and tanks now run on wind power? It’s amazing how quick Obama has brought us this all important change.
Why now? The election is NEXT year Mr. Pres_ent. And you’re going to lose anyway.
Hussein is a bonafide idiot. Oil is not in short supply. A sugar rush of low prices will be followed by more pain. Reminds me of cash for clunkers.
700 million barrels would raise around 50 billion dollars (considering price changes) for the government to continue spending.
Then they can say “we have to raise the debt ceiling to fill up the SPR - we’re at risk”
“The reserve is intended for REAL emergencies, like when the oil CAN’T get here.”
You don’t truly think that Obama cares about that, do you?
This is a political emergency. That’s all he cares about.
There is no Oil shortage. Price of crude fell over $5 a barrel this morning. This is just grandstanding to make Obama look like he is doing something.
Just check the crude oil reserves in Cushing, Ok.
Since when was the strategic oil reserve meant to be used as a band aid to lower prices. Plus, we only are talking about a 3 day supply here. All Obama has managed to do is screw up the oil market for a few days. This guy actually has managed to make Jimmy Carter look good. Lillian Carter would be so happy.
This isn't about relieving anyone from high oil prices. This is the remaining way to attack oil companies:
A brief recap:
Close the Gulf of Mexico and offshore areas to oil drilling.
Close much of the Arctic to oil drilling.
Attack hydraulic fracturing, the process which makes oil plays like the Bakken/Three Forks and gas plays like the Marcellus Shale possible.
Yank drilling permits on Federal leases in Western States (WY, UT, notably), and shut down federal leases in N Dakota and Montana while "studying greenhouse gas impact".
This is just part of an ongoing attack on the one industry. If the Obamites can crash oil prices and reduce the SPR, it's a two-fer.
We use about 20 MILLION barrels of crude daily so this is indeed a drop in the bucket at just 1.5 days supply.
Worse we purchased this oil when prices were far lower and replacing it will cost much more at current prices.
Like the troop reduction that really isn’t, it’s a purely political move from an increasingly desperate Administration
So, let’s see- we go into Libya basically to protect European oil interests. Then supply disruptions occur because of the conflict, so we... hand over even more of our oil on the world market.
Next thing you know we’ll be subsidizing Brazil’s oil drilling. Oh, wait...
