Interesting. As a Sarah Palin supporter, I'm not impressed with the writer's airy dismissal of Sarah Palin but I'm not shocked by it, either. This is pretty much the template for all political commentary these days, whether it's from liberals, (alleged) conservatives or libertarians. 'Palin won't run'/Palin can't win'. I disagree, as do millions of others. What interests me is the writers admiration of Michele Bachmann. I agree with much of it and am seriously looking at Bachmann if Palin chooses not to run. I'm not as impressed with the cheer-leading for Rick Perry.

I don't trust the guy on immigration. His history as a Democrat that worked for Al Gore is problematic for me. This wasn't just 'youthful indiscretion'. Rick Perry ran as a Democrat and was elected (3 times) as a Democrat member of the Texas legislature. He had his conversion to the GOP at age 50. His history smacks of political opportunism, a trait inherent in most politicians, I know, but still a bit disconcerting to a political conservative choosing a candidate to vote for in the 2012 Republican presidential nomination primary. In my case, if Sarah Palin isn't on the ballot it could be Michell Bachmann. However, it won't be Rick Perry, no matter how many positive articles are written about the Texas governor.

I agree, I didn't like the cheap shot at Palin either. It's grown monotonous. But he didn't dwell on it or I wouldn't have posted the piece.

What I like was the way he attacked liberalism and it's institutions. He pulled no punches and capped off the commentary with what I think is a very catchy statement that we and our fellow conservatives can take to heart.

"Liberalism is in crisis. And as the regime cracks, insurgent populists are starting to fill the void. Middle America is on the march."
