Lawrence O'Donnell on Tuesday accused Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) of being a socialist.
"The Last Word" host, who has admitted on national television to himself being a socialist, did so by cherry-picking from an article published at the perilously liberal website "The Huffington Post" (video follows with commentary and full transcript at end of post):
LAWRENCE O'DONNELL: Michele Bachmann, as has been pointed out in this space before, has a family farm that has received over a quarter of million dollars in direct cash from the federal government. That is, of course, in addition to her federal salary of $174,000 for her real full-time job as a member of Congress. Thanks to Sam Stein at the Huffington Post today, with we now have yet another example of Bachmann political dependence, career dependence on socialism.
The Huffington Post obtained a letter Bachmann wrote on October 5th, 2009, to the Obama administrations Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack thanking him for government intervention in the pork industry. That's right, government intervention in the market. She wrote, Your efforts to stabilize prices through direct government purchasing of pork and dairy products are very much welcomed.
Yes. This is the same woman who said this about the Democrats' health care reform bill.

The Left routinely scream a bunch of lies about a Conservative, then demand every single one of the lies be proven false.
Here is a better idea. You provide the proof. The accusations are lies. The accusation about the Family Farm is a proven lie. Since it is a lie, the rest of this can be assumed to be a lie.
Prove me wrong.
now that was funny.
Exactly, bump that.
The Left routinely scream a bunch of lies about a Conservative, then demand every single one of the lies be proven false.
Here is a better idea. You provide the proof. The accusations are lies. The accusation about the Family Farm is a proven lie. Her family lives in White Bear Lake, MN. A suburb of St Paul. They have never owned a farm. They do not own a farm.
Since that accusation is a lie, the rest of this can be assumed to be a lie.
Prove me wrong.
Except that your history shows that you will be calling this old news and will never get around to addressing it.
Just as your history is always dragging Palin into threads that have nothing to do with Palin.
Can we have some context for this extract from Bachmann’s letter to Valsick? What was done before the “direct purchase” of pork and dairy products? What alternatives were available?
The government purchase of these commodities has to be enormous ever single year. If one considers only those purchases for feeding the military on bases around the country and around the world, the cost would run into hundreds of millions of dollars. How were these products purchased before, if not “directly?”
How is it ‘socialist’ to advocate the US DAg’s expanding the market for US agricultural products?
The core allegation here is Bachmann's gratitude for government intervention in ag markets.
I am inclined to believe it is true given that Newsbusters apparently put a lot of effort into this rebuttal and did not make any claim that the letter is false.
So here again we appear to have Bachmann's split personality - the Tea Party leader who likes government intervensions.
And what do we get from the Bachmann camp on FR? Exactly what we've come to expect from them - lots of yelling, dragging Palin into the thread, name calling, the works. Everything but actually addressing the topic of the story.
When you lose an argument, attack the other person personally.
Won’t work, mainly because I don’t care if you attack me personally.
I hope she has done the right thing in light of that truth.
read the entire article linked it puts the best spin on the context that they can.
If Larry could get his lips off of barry the bastards ass long enough, he might discover that his little half-black god was first run as a Communist Party USA candidate in IL. But that will ever happen with vermin like O’Donnell.

From Wikipedia:
Bachmann and her husband own a Christian counseling practice in Stillwater.[23][24] Bachmann also has an ownership stake in a family farm located in Waumandee, Wisconsin. Since the death of her father-in-law in 2009, the farm and its buildings have been rented out to a neighboring farmer who maintains a dairy herd on the farm.
Bachmanns financial disclosure forms indicate her stake in the Wisconsin farm is worth up to $250,000. Her income from the farm has grown from $2,000 a year a few years back to as much as $50,000 for 2008.
Agreed. But I still contend it is possible to work towards changes while still taking advantage of a policy while it is in effect.
Ms. Bachman’s district appears to be heavily agricultural. I’m not sure to what extent.
Had she run on a platform of eliminating subsidies on which the farmers and their suppliers have become so dependent, she would never have been elected. Taken to its logical extreme nobody could run for office as a conservative without advocating the immediate repeal of SS, Medicare, etc.
Which would mean no conservative would ever be elected.
I’m curious how you can claim how I am losing the argument when you haven’t even offered one up other than your usual tactic of assiduously avoding the subject.
Why would I agree with this or give it my stamp of approval unless we hear from Michele Bachmann. A person does have a right to explain the accusations leveled against them.
This is from the left. I am not going to give the left a pass and agree with them just because the likes of O’Donnell says so.
O’Donnell is an emotionally-disturbed Marxist toady who claims proudly and publicly he is a socialist — so why would he object to someone else being a socialist.
This is a disinformation campaign against Bachmann because she actually believes in capitalism. One should always assume that anything O’Donnell says has is LIES and/or PROPAGANDA.
Except that you NEVER address the issue when it comes to Bachmann. So that excuse doesn’t wash.
I’m curious to know why you believe anything Larry O’Donnell says. Do you get all your “news” from MSNBC?
I just addressed it, except that addressing the issue never seems to be good enough.
