Because of my chosen career (financial mathematician), there are only a few states in which I could get a reasonable job. Illinois is the best on the list. Others would include Connecticut (lived there for 8 months and hated it), New York, New Jersey, Massachusettes, and California. Of course, financial firms are beginning to move out of these states.
I think Illinois will soon be ripe for the picking. People are really pissed about the tax hikes and employers (including my own) are threatening to incorporate in different states to lower their tax burdens. The problem with economic reality is that eventually you run out of ways to escape it.
