I think you are not aware the PM is a far left wing socialist. His socialist party holds 155 seats. They all voted for him. No one else did, of the 300 seats in parliament. It was a 5 vote win.

No, I am very aware of the situation. That's one of the more comical parts of this whole thing. The socialist party is in charge and the very lefties that usually support them are out in the streets wailing and crying about an austerity program that forces these socialist to sell off government entities, slash public sector spending, etc.

It's a pathetic situation, but it is ironic that the socialists are in charge and forced to force through these measures.

The no confidence vote was basically party lines. There was no surprise here, everyone including the markets knew this would be the result. This means the government will likely win the upcoming vote on the new austerity package.

In the meantime, the hippies and unions lost. So they are out in the streets breaking windows and generally making a nuisance of themselves.
