I too think Texas needs a Arizona type Law, but we would be remiss if we did not mention that Perry did send the Texas Rangers to go help deal with the Mexicans.

Indeed wasn’t it just last week that we heard about the Rangers getting into a gun fight with the Mexicans over the Rio Grande River?

Clearly Perry is not doing nothing about the immigration problem.

Check out what fellow politicians (both Democrats and Republicans) have had to say about Rick Perry:
http://www.politico.com/arena/archive/rick-perry-for-president-in-2012.html
All (including Democrat opponents) have called him a staunch Conservative, and not one of the dozens issuing opinions has mentioned the vaccine or TTC.

I'll have to do more research on why the bad blood between Perry and the Bushes. What I seem to be reading is that Perry has accused Bush of being a RINO (although not using that word)

Perry has said the cervical cancer vaccine is no different than the one that protects children against polio.
“If there are diseases in our society that are going to cost us large amounts of money, it just makes good economic sense, not to mention the health and well being of these individuals to have those vaccines available,” he said.

Texas allows parents to opt out of inoculations by filing an affidavit stating that he or she objected to the vaccine for religious or philosophical reasons.

I said COMPARED to Romney, Newt et al, he is a rock star.
Last time I checked, Sarah had not declared.
And you’re right. She IS a rock star.
Sadly, she just cannot win.

It looks like many e-verify bills came up in the legislature's regular session but most didn't make it out of committee. It doesn't look like that's been added (yet?) to the special session. A bill ending sanctuary city policies is in though and a human trafficking law was passed this year too. I hadn't heard about the Rangers.

It definitely sounds like he's doing things on the issue of illegal immigration and border security.

Oh Please!

Compare what he has done with the totally effective and complete solution that is provided with the AZ1070 Law or the recently passed similiar law in Alabama. ]

Do you see the difference?

One is actually effective and deals with the problem, and then there is Perry who is "All Hat and No Cattle!"

Don't make excuses for him, he is not doing anything on the Border that will really fix the problem.

This is classic Perry, talk up a storm and do something symbolic, but nothing is really ever accomplished where Illegal Immigration is concerned, because he is, by his own words and actions which have been posted here on FreeRepublic many time, an OPEN BORDER loser!

Your info was helpful, as one of the few things I know about Perry was his support for the *mandatory* STD vaccination of minor girls.

Uh...please get your facts straight. Either 1) You are ignorant of the facts or 2) You are deliberately trying to mislead.

No...it was not mandatory. As with all vaccinations in Texas...there was a way to opt out. Parents could opt out and still have their children attend public schools.

Perry has his faults for sure. But, unlike most politicians, when he makes a mistake and the people tell him they don't like it...he LISTENS to the will of the people because that is what elected officials are SUPPOSED to do.

As far as this bill is concerend: It was brought up in regular session...and passed the house unanimously (if I recall correctly). It got stuck in the senate because of some dem sowed fears.

You don't put things on the special session in Texas (If you are the Gov) if you 1) Don't think they will pass and 2) Don't want them to pass.

they now know they have the votes in the senate...and this is why it was added to the special session.

Yet another poster from outside the state that really doesn't know much about the situation.

We have numerous members of my military unit on border orders right now...and they just got extended. Perry...and the state...would do much more but the funding isn't there. It takes $ and we are actually in a much better situation in our state than most...but still can't afford to go into debt to do the Fed's job.

Again...there are a lot of state and national guard on orders right now along the border and they were just extended. They are only there because Perry (mainly him) pushed the Fed gov't for the funding to do this.

Is that correct...or not?
