Texas Gov. Rick Perry sounds more like a presidential candidate by the day. This weekend he gave a rousing speech at the Republican Leadership Conference in which he blasted the Obama administration as a bunch of smarty-pants busy-bodies.
They clearly think they know best, said Governor Perry. And let me tell you, I vehemently disagree. They dont know best.
As he kept speaking he was interrupted by audience members chanting Run Rick, Run!
But heres a question: Is it too late for Gov. Perry to throw his drawl into the ring?
It gets late early when it comes to running for president, to paraphrase baseball great Yogi Berra. Thats because it takes time to put together a staff and rustle up a posse of donors.....
However, there are a number of reasons why Perry in particular might be able to hem and haw a bit longer than your average presidential hopeful.....
For another thing, Perry shouldnt have any trouble lassoing cash. Thats not just because Texas is full of stereotypical conservative oil millionaires.....
Finally, being southern may give Perry an inherent electoral advantage over the northerners, easterners, and Utahan (or is it Utahn?) that make up the rest of the field.
...Plus, the GOP electorate in Iowa, that all-important first caucus state, is about 60 percent born-again Christian. Thats the same as many Southern states, points out Mr. Silver.

I guess with his giant elite brain, Peter Grier has a passel of down home idioms he'll be using to regale his readership in the months ahead.
The elite media sees a Conservative who loves their country as a bumpkin, a chawbacon, a churl, a clodhopper, a cornball, a countryman, a hayseed, a hillbilly, a hick, a rube, a rustic, a yokel....
The elite msm call people who love America provincial: people of local or restricted interests or outlook; person lacking urban polish or refinement.

The 2011 Texas Inauguration and Oath of Office Ceremony was held under cloudy skies on the south steps of the State Capitol Tuesday afternoon where Governor Rick Perry and Lt. Governor David Dewhurst were sworn into office. Governor Perry and First Lady Anita Perry walk under the Texas A&M Ross Volunteer Company Honor Guard at the start of the ceremony.
Rick Perry will not find a better time to run for the presidency. His electoral advantage should be stacked against the advantages of the other republican candidates and seen as the asset that it is.
That’s not to say that he’ll win, but there is reason to believe middle class America was seriously misled by and is now seriously disappointed with the Obama presidency.
It is indeed too late for him to be viable for 2012.
He needed to stop blocking legislation to enforce emmigration in Texas two years ago to be credible. He failed to track to the center early enough to be believable.
He remains the Kelo vs. New London eminent domain abuse poster boy.
The best he can do is govern to the right, stay out of the legislature’s way, and try in 2016.
Whether it is too late for him to get in will depend on Bachmann’s momentum and the extent that she has already captured the support of the conservative wing of the party. The extent to which she has done this will determine how much room Perry has to run. Prior to Bachmann catching fire in the wake of the New Hampshire debate, Perry had a lot of room to run. That may no longer be the case. Of course he can still get in, but his path to victory is a little less clear now. Has Bachmann won over support from those within the party who could propel Perry to victory, or will a Perry entrance in the race result in that support moving to him? It seems like a hard one to call.
Last week, before Gov. Rick Perry's announcement that the expansion of Secure Communities would be on the agenda for the Legislature's special session, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick announced his state will not take part in the program...."

We need those individuals to continue to grow our economy, Perry told a briefing with reporters.
If you show up illegally, without your card or youre here as a criminal element, Im for throwing the book at those folks, but the issue of people who want to legally, thoughtfully and appropriately come to America to work and help us build our economy we should quickly come up with a program and an identification card to do that. Perry Calls for Halt of 'Economic Ruin' in NYC Republican Speech""In Texas, you don't have to use your imagination, saying, 'What'll happen if we apply this or that conservative principle?'" Perry said. "You just need to look around, because they've been in play across our state for years, generating real results like unmatched job creation, more exports than any other state and a balanced budget."
Perry sounds like a White House candidate as he fires up New York GOP"In his speech, Perry recounted a number of bills passed in this year's legislative session, such as new photo identification requirements for voters and new abortion restrictions. But he focused on the robust growth of jobs in Texas during his tenure. "I'm proud to be conservative not only because I'm from Texas, but because conservatives have won the war of ideas," Perry said. [end excerpt]
Perry: Stand up and stop apologizing
.Our opponents on the left are never going to like us, so lets stop trying to curry favor with them, he said, before imploring the crowd to stand up. Lets speak with pride about our values. Lets stop this American downward spiral.
Thanks for the comments — interesting points.
It will be good to see this get going.
I don’t know if this will make a difference but I saw that Perry’s longtime political adviser, “is from New Hampshire.

The msm will have to work overtime this election cycle to “elevate” Obama to the voters.
I guess it depends on how many people have now become so crippled by the Democratic Party that they vote for them out of fear...and then there is voter fraud.
TURN OUT! will decide this election.
We need the candidate that will get Americans to the polls to make Obama “Carter II.”
As I said, he needed to have stopped blocking this same legislation at least two years ago, (two terms as governor ago would have been even better) to be credible. His eve of launching a presidential bid flip flop on the borders fails to convince. It makes him seem like a Mitt Clone.
??????
For now they're all getting the same msm treatment:
Sarah Palin ("insubstantial") and the media bring out the worst in each other ......"As for us, I think we are drawn by a lurid amazement that someone we find so insubstantial is viewed by many as being of presidential timber.
Beyond that, there is our ongoing fascination with the shiny bauble, the bouncing ball, the car crash. Palin addiction grows out of the same hollow judgment and inability to distinguish news from entertainment that produces a shark scare every third summer."......
It's either Palin, Perry, or Palin/Perry in my mind. I've been researching/investigating for days and saw something late last nite, that put Perry back on the radar for me, and that is his support for Israel.
With that said, I will not sit out the election (have never done so) because we must get rid of these marxists in the WH/administration before all of this takes solid root.
WE MUST have people with clear direction. Palin and Perry both are/have been Governors and Governors of liberty loving states no less. They are in a completely different realm than the politicians currently throwing their hats in the ring.
2012 is do or die for the United States of America. That's it...we either exterminate the maggots in the WH and cut the rot and infected out of our system or we die. THIS IS IT...PERIOD

Congress failed to pass a comprehensive overhaul of immigration laws in June despite heavy lobbying by President George W. Bush.
Following the reform failure, Washington is concentrating on border enforcement -- building a security fence along the Mexican border, deporting undocumented immigrants and trying to prevent companies from hiring illegal migrants. [Well, MrEdd, we saw how that Washington thingy didn't happen]
Perry, a Republican, said it was important to separate immigration from security issues, which Texas has dealt with on its stretch of the Mexican border by deploying more guards.
"We know how to deal with border security, and you don't do it by building a fence," Perry said, ahead of a meeting with Mexican President Felipe Calderon.... [end excerpt]

EXPAND! EXPAND! EXPAND! [TX legislature meets every 2 years]
As Texas moves toward expanding Secure Communities, several northern states are dropping out of the program that matches the fingerprints of those arrested against a U.S. [ICE] database.
Last week, before Gov. Rick Perry's announcement that the expansion of Secure Communities would be on the agenda for the Legislature's special session, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick announced his state will not take part in the program. [end excerpt]
