I hope Mamasteph doesn’t consider her cats to be her “babies” and lets them run loose in the kitchen, with free access to counter and table tops. Yes, I have seen it.

Rat hairs in your peanut butter sandwich and insect fragments in your pasta sauce? Yuck. Yet according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) these defects in certain foods are totally OK.

Title 21, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 110.110 allows the FDA to establish maximum levels of natural or unavoidable defects in foods that you can consume in a given year. Here are some of our favorite foods and their “safe” defects.
