There was a time when this country abounded with schools offering, mechanical, machining, carpentry, and welding courses,
Budding shade tree and bailing wire mechanics loved working on their jalopies. Dad’s saw to it that boys grew up fixing everything with anything, as a matter of course they repaired appliances, cars, farm tractors and equipment.
Today, most people do not even know where to check the oil, let alone change it.
We have no need for skills; we shipped all our industry overseas, and now we don’t have to work. Big Bro’ O is going to take care of us.....

The manufacturing business may be having a hard time finding skilled workers and product contracts, but the “education” business is booming at all levels and flush with government money and union contracts!
I guess we simply need even MORE taxpayer money spent sending tattoo’d, overweight, unwed mothers of four to college to study non-hard science, non-engineering majors. The amount we’re spending now just obviously hasn’t been enough.
The emasculated, lost, male, US citizen youths? The ones who, in previous generations, formed the backbone of our manufacturing and technological prowess? Social justice dictates that these evil savages continue to get what’s coming to them.

The Journ0list story du jour is that people aren’t qualified for the ‘good jobs’ that are out there. Obama is trying to push another jobs training program, to make insta-engineers. At least that is how it will be described. Since it will be called an education program it is probably a plan to kick money to school districts to pay for teacher’s unions benefit plans so teachers won’t have to pay co pays or contribute to their retirement like everyone else.
I have applied endlessly at Siemens for positions qualfied for, way over qualified and not qualified for, with same no thanks result.

The labor force is now dominated by immigrants, most illegal, who are good at breaking the law and cutting grass.
I guess Siemens does not need an over abundance of grass trimmers who speak spanish and are proud of their race and loyal to foreign country?
When boomers totally leave the workforce...
Why don’t they hire our Art History or Communications grads for their plants?
