WASHINGTON Republican Senator John McCain, his party's 2008 presidential nominee, ripped into the current crop of Republican White House contenders, accusing them of breaking party tradition by preaching "isolationism."
McCain said if former President Ronald Reagan were still alive he would have been disappointed in last week's Republican presidential debate in which candidates voiced impatience with U.S. military efforts in Afghanistan, Iraq and now Libya.
"He would be saying: That's not the Republican Party of the 20th century, and now the 21st century. That is not the Republican Party that has been willing to stand up for freedom for people for all over the world," McCain said.
McCain made the comments in an interview with ABC's "This Week" program that was broadcast on Sunday.

If former President Ronald Reagan were still alive he would be bitch slapping McCain for the millionth time.
If McShame and his NeoCon buddies couldn’t try to bankrupt up by never-ending wars all over the globe, they wouldn’t know what to do.
How did this guy ever make it on the ballot in ‘08?
I know how... but sigh.....

McCain who? Is he actually relevant?
McCain still wants to play cop to the whole world.
with blood and money from yet another generation.
Rome, chapter ?
Same story, just new names.
As if fighting the Democrats wasn’t enough, Republican candidates have to watch their flank as well. Irrespective of the rights and wrongs of what he is bitching about, at this juncture moaning about it is not a good idea. Do Clinton and Carter criticise Obama in such terms? No they do not.
Maybe we figured out we are not spreading freedom.....but McCain/Obama style socialism that has nearly destroyed Western civilization. Socialist/fascism doesn’t just need to be isolated, it needs to be quarantined and eradicated. (Backstabbing jerk)
My thoughts exactly. This and he wants Gitmo closed and his stance on torturing terrorists, He is a liberal. He and Lindsey may as well turncoat over to be full commiecrats.I wonder about a lot of our GOP I think it is all a money game and they don’t care.
John is at least as smart as Megan. They speak and nobody listens.
Iraq and Afghanistan I understand. I’m not sure what the point is with Libya except that NATO has it in for Quaddafi Duck.
Conservatives to McCain: John STFU!!!
We PRAY for isolationism. John McCain is an ass. When did he start to believe that we want to hear any words come out of his duplicitous mouth?
We need to cut at least 25% (75% would be better) of our giving to countries around the world and use that money to help assist with the healthcare needs of our veterans — among other things. (Bo Dietl has been preaching this for a while.) The more money we give to other countries, the more they despise us.
It becomes increasingly obvious that the Constitution has little, if any, meaning for the Senior (citizen) Senator from Arizona.
Not content to pass the second biggest abridgment of freedom of speech our Republic has ever seen (the first being the Alien and Sedition Act) - he now opines that the power Congress is entrusted with - to declare war - is now entirely in the hands of the Executive.
Disgusting!
The impression of Republicans would probably be “the right words, but only under the wrong mouth”.
I read somewhere that even Nancy R. was irritated with McPain’s divorce of the first wife. But most Republicans are so uninformed that they don’t know the real McPain.
Well, people in AZ seem to believe everything McPain.
