They are avoiding the point. The problem is the bulldozing of homes, less who is doing it. Does it really matter if whoever is bulldozing your house is from the other side of the country, rhetorically speaking, or the nice boy who lives down the lane?
Sure the nice boy who lives down the lane might be easier to persuade to not bulldoze your home. But why should any of your countrymen be willing to do so?
When your national army turns against the people, it is no longer “your” army. It is no longer “of the people”, so it is like any other invader, and should be treated as such.
Soldiers have family. How would that soldier’s mother feel that he was oppressive and destructive? That he is no longer “defending the country”?
That he does what is wrong, “Because he is only following orders.”
