If it’s not a fiscal conservative, then we all lose.

Of course, but if you go on that one facet of conservatism you will lose the Constitution, the culture and ultimately the fiscal issues as well.

“Of course, but if you go on that one facet of conservatism you will lose the Constitution, the culture and ultimately the fiscal issues as well.”

I understand the argument of political pragmatism. However, the GOP’s version of political pragmatism election-after-election is that anyone who strays beyond the GOP “we know best” establishment must hold their nose and vote for them.

They have nearly as much blame for our present fiscal straights as democrats - and they have had similar disrespect for the constitution, culture because they have allowed government to grow to the level that was never foreseen by our Constitution - to the point it directly impacts our culture.

No. The budget must be slashed, and government must be drastically shrunk if our Constitution and our culture are to survive.

We know the GOP won’t do it on their own - they haven’t even tried in more than 20 years. We know the democrats won’t do it ever, and have never tried.

So if the GOP isn’t forced to do the right thing by putting forward a fiscal conservative presidential candidate - the only hope - the ONLY hope is for that fiscal conservative to rise to power through a third party - as much of a longshot as that seems right now.

A year is a long time in politics. This time the third party argument just might be different - if voters are stung by a financial collapse, they just might reject status quo GOP and status quo democrat nonsense and a third party may rise to dominate.

Yes, it’s unlikely.

But it will make little difference to America who we elect in 2012 if they do not radically alter the status quo and slash the federal government.
