2 Top Lawyers Lost to Obama in Libya War Policy Debate
NY Times ^ | 17 June 2011 | Charlie Savage

WASHINGTON — President Obama rejected the views of top lawyers at the Pentagon and the Justice Department when he decided that he had the legal authority to continue American military participation in the air war in Libya without Congressional authorization, according to officials familiar with internal administration deliberations.

Jeh C. Johnson, the Pentagon general counsel, and Caroline D. Krass, the acting head of the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel, had told the White House that they believed that the United States military’s activities in the NATO-led air war amounted to “hostilities.” Under the War Powers Resolution, that would have required Mr. Obama to terminate or scale back the mission after May 20.

But Mr. Obama decided instead to adopt the legal analysis of several other senior members of his legal team — including the White House counsel, Robert Bauer, and the State Department legal adviser, Harold H. Koh — who argued that the United States military’s activities fell short of “hostilities.” Under that view, Mr. Obama needed no permission from Congress to continue the mission unchanged.

Not quite sure he is rather thin though.

For those who haven’t clicked on the link, there’s more to that story.

http://fellowshipofminds.wordpress.com/2010/07/25/mom-of-murdered-obama-gay-lover-speaks-up/

The report added, “WMR spoke to several well-placed sources in Chicago who reported that Jeremiah Wright ran what was essentially a matchmaking service for gay married black professional members of the church, including lawyers and businessmen, particularly those with children. The matchmaking club was called the ‘Down Low Club’ but references to it over the phone and email simply referred to the group with the code phrase ‘DLC.’ The ruse, according to our sources, was to make anyone who was eavesdropping on the communications [FBI wiretaps in the Rod Blagojevich case likely contain such references] believe that the references were to the Democratic Leadership Council, also known as the DLC . . . Among the members of the gay ‘DLC’ were Obama and TUCC’s choir director, Donald Young, an openly gay man who reportedly had a sexual relationship with Obama.

Larry Sinclair, the gay man who claimed to have had two sexual encounters with Obama in Chicago in 1999, wrote a book, “Cocaine, Sex, Lies & Murder,” in which he states that Obama was linked to Young’s murder.

Sinclair was arrested by Washington, DC police following his news conference based on a warrant from Delaware issued by Vice President candidate Joseph Biden’s son, Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden. The Delaware charges against Sinclair were later dropped.

Sinclair’s book is now the subject of a defamation lawsuit [Daniel Parisi, et al v. Lawrence W. Sinclair a/k/a “Larry Sinclair,” et al] brought by Dan Parisi, the proprietor of the website, Whitehouse.com, who is mentioned in Sinclair’s book with regard to his involvement in polygraphs administered to Sinclair after he made his allegations against Obama public during the 2008 presidential campaign. The lawsuit is being handled by the politically powerful Patton & Boggs law firm, the same firm that represented George W. Bush’s top political adviser Karl Rove in the Valerie Plame Wilson/CIA leak, and has been filed against Sinclair, his publishing company, and distributors, including Barnes and Noble and Amazon.com in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Sinclair is currently a resident of Florida.

Why should he obey the law, when neither the Judicial or Legislative branches of government hold him accountable?"

Before O's done, nobody will care whether they obey the law.

COSO calls it, 'Tone at the Top'.

Leadership or Anarchy. It trickles down regardless. The Amish problem is just the beginning. Wait till J6P gets it...

Dropping bombs and missiles on a sovereign country, and deliberately targeting the head of state of that country, are not hostile acts. Well, I'm glad they cleared that up.

It would be interesting if the Supremes declared the Libyan war to be illegal. That would mean that military officers would be free to ignore illegal orders on that.

"His evil is definitely intentional, and I do think he sees himself as the first Muslim dictator of the US World.

That's prolly closer.

A vague headline from the newspaper of record. Did They Lose to Him or Were They Lost to Him? I was hoping they had resigned.

“He has refused his assent to laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good...
He has erected a multitude of new offices, and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance. ...
He has affected to render the military independent of and superior to civil power...
He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us,...”

Our military is being bled dry and the economy is on the brink. The United States is being set up for the greatest military and economic “hit” in history. It’s called implementing the New World Order/One World Government. They can’t do it with a strong, soverign USA. They’re doing everything they can to take us down.

Meanwhile, "they" make money.

This is exactly like Kosovo. "They" tell Zero to bomb. "They" loan us the cash. "They" play commodities futures accordingly. "They" accumulate cash... Commodity prices rise. We go into debt. "They" print cash to loan and cover said debt. "They" show up at the bond auction with said cash. In order to prevent the appearance of inflation, "they" accept a ridiculous interest rate. In return, "they" tell us what to do next...

The rules do not apply to a dictator.
Advice is for presidents not despots.

I’m not that great at history, but it seems to me that we made a collective decision sometime in the past .. oh I don;t know like 235 years ago that we didn’t need this type of “leadership”

Anyone? Anyone??

I am such a cynic that I can see a scenario/plot where these lawyers are told to submit negative reports -— as more shuffles of the cards or shells in the three card monte that is happening out of the WH these days.

Why else would the NYTimes publish this “news”?

He will regret overiding the conclusions of his
Office of Legal Counsel when President Palin uses
the same assumed power and precedent to prosecute
Obama for treason and illegal acts of war.

How could it be “hostilities” when it isn’t a war, it’s a “kinetic military action”. It’s not bombs they are dropping, they are “regime change encouragement devices”.

I’m approaching this Obama/Libya/ War Powers act from a different angle.

Obama is begging to be impeached.

He’ll do everything in increments like Obama-care etc to set off a constitutional crisis and Libya is just another means to an end. His Muslim ‘sympathies’ are a sideshow. He is a One world Marxist.

Being brought up on impeachment charges gives the left the signal for the flash mobs that have been increasing in frequency, to unleash hell in the name of racism.

The left need anarchy to seize control and Obama ignoring the War Powers act is just another step.

JMO...

You want to know the sick part of this?

The liberals (mostly not Kucinich) all defend Obama!!!

Where is Code Stink? Cindy Sheehan? ANSWER???

It's a democrat war which means it's a good war. Kinda like when Clinton bombed Serbia to cover up his scandal.

If this were Bush the left and the anti war groups would be swinging from chandeliers throwing firebombs and rioting for impeachment and the press would be right there. Seems war is good when democrats do it.

They are too busy crying about Weiner resigning and wanting the head of David Vitter...

FWIW, I still think that the details behind how the Lockerbie bomber deal was done would explain a lot about Barry’s Libya policy....
