Gov. Jerry Brown has vetoed the budget package passed Wednesday by Democratic legislators, sources say, which creates a potential rift within his own party.
The sources said an announcement was expected soon.
[Updated at 10:42 a.m., June 16: Brown announced the veto in a press release Thursday. "Unfortunately, the budget I have received is not a balanced solution," his statement said. "It continues big deficits for years to come and adds billions of dollars of new debt. It also contains legally questionable maneuvers, costly borrowing and unrealistic savings. Finally, it is not financeable and therefore will not allow us to meet our obligations as they occur."

I am shocked. However, he did say he would veto any plan with gimmicks and this was more gimmicky then most. None of the fees/taxes had an ice cubes chance in Hell of making it through the court system. About the only thing JB has done right so far.

Was this just a plow to make sure the legislators get paid? Under the proposition passed last year, the lawmakers start losing their paycheck starting today if a budget wasn’t passed through the legislature. So, to avoid getting their paychecks dinged, they pass a budget they know will be vetoed.

I don’t care what they do. In 15 days the sales tax drops 12%. They can screw around all they want until then.

HA! Brown may look stupid, and often leave one wondering, but he knows well he wouldn’t be able to fabricate an act that would cover such gimmickry as his buddies sent him from the legislature.
Brown had no choice, but to veto that one.

Cut,cut,cut.
Brown thought he could get away with lying into the gig, again.
Even the dems here recognize the inability of families to pay more for government bureaucrats.
Cut,cut,cut.

Brown knows that the buck stops with him. Any financial implosion will be blamed on him, not any individual members of the legislature. And he knows the reckoning is at hand.

The Gov. has stated it is not a balanced budget....do the penalties against the legislators kick in?

They passed a “balanced” budget in order to continue getting paid. The law doesn’t say that budget had to be signed!

>and adds billions of dollars of new debt.
The democrat party sure likes to spend other peoples money...even when they don’t have any to hand over.
These people will never get a clue.

Brown is on live now, explaining his veto.
He says he’ll “move heaven and earth” to get four Republican votes to put his tax extensions on the ballot in September.

Reporter is asking Brown for his “Plan B’ if he doesn’t get the tax extensions on the ballot.
Brown gives a non-answer...speaking in generalities.

You're correct. It's the darn fine print again. Should have know that the rats would never put their paychecks at risk.
