It wasn't a joke - Mitt seriously thought that unemployed people would feel empathy towards him.

But nice attempted at spinning away Mitt's stupidity.

I agree, it may have been a bit insensitive, but geez, I think most people know he doesn’t need to work, that he was referencing he would like to be employeed as POTUS, duh. Lighten up indeed. If he had held some office the anti-Romneybots here would have had him out faster than Weiner.
