A Saudi prince rails against U.S. policy: At issue is our support of Israel
NY Daily News ^ | 6-15-11 | Richard Cohen

As best I can recall, I met Saudi Arabia's Prince Turki al-Faisal at a home in Washington years ago. I found him stern and humorless, sometimes even bitter. Still, I was unprepared for the opinion column he published in Sunday's Washington Post. It read like a declaration of war.

Faisal is not now in the government. Yet, he is a member of the Saudi royal family and was once the kingdom's intelligence chief and its former ambassador to both London and Washington. He starts by citing what he calls President Obama's "controversial speech last month, admonishing Arab governments to embrace democracy and provide freedom to their populations." Saudi Arabia, he wrote, heard what Obama said and took it "seriously," and he noted that Obama had not demanded the same rights for Palestinians under Israeli occupation.

But the same kingdom that has taken Obama "seriously" is an absolute monarchy that, among other things, bans women from driving cars.

It is also a country that offers no freedom of religion. Given that Faisal has spent a good deal of time in the West, it's not possible that he was unaware that commentators would be picky about the lack of basic freedoms. Indeed, that was the point.

Faisal has had it with the U.S. The kingdom will not be lectured to. It is tired of American favoritism to Israel - the exuberant congressional reception for Benjamin Netanyahu, for example - and the administration's decision to oppose any effort in the UN to create a Palestinian state. In this matter, America is doing what Israel wants.

Who cares what some Saudi prince thinks about our relationship with Israel?

When Turki was Interior Minister 30 some years ago, he ordered that the congregants attending mass and singing Christmas carols in the courtyard of the Belgian embassy cease and desist immediately. He’s a weasel from a long line of weasels.

One has to believe this person was involved in 9-11.

” he ordered that the congregants attending mass and singing Christmas carols in the courtyard of the Belgian embassy cease and desist immediately.”

At one time about 20 years ago SA also ordered the USA to stop holding religious services in its Jeddah consulate.
The State Dept. initially complied (leaving only the British consulate holding services).

We bow and kowtow to SA more than we would to any other state.

Let’s not risk the brave lives of Navy SEALs.

One nuclear-tipped Tomahawk turning Riyadh into a glass parking lot would accomplish more in less time.

That’s after the first Tomahawk has done the same to Mecca.

No Mecca = no Islam. Tired of these b@stards.

Good point.

And it would even save money in the long run, because Mr. Tomahawk only needs to visit once, while the over-worked and underpaid SEALs might have to make a return trip every time some member of the "Saudi royal family" runs his stupid yap.

;-)

Turki is a POS koranimal who should have been arrested on 9/12.

His diplomatic immunity has kept him safe since that fateful day.

Amen! I am soooo tired of Saudi Arabia! I am all for the green glassification of Mecca as long as the kabba is vaporized and replaced with a crater. !
