California violin teacher pleads guilty to 2001 UW arson (Briana Waters)

TACOMA — Briana Waters, the California violin teacher who was facing retrial for her role in the 2001 arson at the University of Washington's Center for Urban Horticulture, pleaded guilty Tuesday to several charges related to the attack.

Waters, 35, pleaded guilty to four counts, including arson, conspiracy to use a destructive device, possessing a destructive device and use of a destructive device. The last count carries a penalty of up to 30 years to life. She also agreed to pay the UW and the state nearly $7 million in restitution.

Waters had maintained her innocence even after a federal jury convicted her of two counts of arson following her 2008 trial. She was serving a six-year sentence at Danbury Federal Correctional Facility in Connecticut when the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, citing judicial misconduct, overturned her conviction and ordered a new trial.

Waters was released from prison last year pending the new trial, which was set to begin next month.

During Tuesday's plea hearing, Waters admitted her testimony during her 2008 trial had been false. She said she was among a group of people who planted firebombs in the Center for Urban Horticulture office of UW professor Toby Bradshaw.

She is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 23.

Waters is one of five activists alleged to have participated in the UW arson, which prosecutors say caused more than $6 million in damage while destroying rare plants, books and years of research. Prosecutors had said Waters helped procure a car and acted as a lookout.

Hang the eco-fascist bitch.

Let her kids grow up knowing that “mommy” was a fascist pig who hated and attacked normal people who wanted to support and raise their families.

These eco-Nazis have caused incredible pain and suffering to ranchers and property owners all across America, especially in the West.

Hang the bitch high. No mercy.

And no, she’s not a “nice family woman and mother.”

She’s spawn of Heinrich Himmler and his orders to eliminate people in the Eastern territories.

Stop in at Yahoo Answers sometime and read all the posts from these eco-Nazi Malthusians and how they want to murder 5 billion people.

The bitch is regretful because she got caught.

I’ve got 22 years pursuing and exposing these eco-Nazis. I’m not done yet.

like Kathleen Soliah...the law wasn't meant for them....

Even the criminal-friendly 9th Circuit Court couldn't completely save her.

BTW, how does a 'violin teacher' get $7M???

Waters should have gotten the 30 years to life in her first trial but the jury wimped out on the most serious charges. Now with this plea bargain to avoid the second trial I doubt she’ll do much if any more time.

She’s a radical enviro-nazi and should spend at least 20 more years in a federal slammer. It’s amazing that no one was killed in any of the fires this group set.

I believe that because her attorney filed the appeal to the Ninth Circus and they overturned the conviction and called for a new trial.

She only was sentenced to 6? years and served part of it. Had the conviction and sentence not been appealed she’d soon have served her original sentence.

She said she was among a group of people who planted firebombs in the Center for Urban Horticulture office of UW professor Toby Bradshaw.

I was curious why they targeted him, so I looked it up. Seems he does research into the genetics of fast-growing poplars, in an attempt to use them as a resource rather than slower growing trees. IOW, he's a greenie.

But some of the group that burnt him out were opposed to genetic research and engineering, so they went after him.

Speaking of the women in this group: You can lead a horticulture, but you can't make her think.

LOL! Well said. :-)

Yes, that is what it was about. This group was ticked off because of the genetic research that was being done.

yes but then she pleaded guilty to more serious charge. Prosecutors wouldn’t have pursued a new trial if he couldn’t get more than she served already

In reading the article I found this... Waters' plea is part of a deal with federal prosecutors, according to documents filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court, who have promised they will recommend she serve no more time behind bars providing she fully cooperate — and provide new, useful information — with the government's ongoing domestic-terrorism investigation into the Animal Liberation Front and Earth Liberation Front.

It also mentions one member recently released from a jail in China for possessing Dope who is going to be tried and Briana is supposed to testify against him

Yes, I didn’t realize she agreed to testify against Solondz, but that’s why the feds cut the deal. Solondz is a real piece of work, he and Waters dated at one time.

He was one of the four fugitives from The Family and was caught hiding out in China by the Chinese. I have a hunch the feds want him in prison real bad.

I’ll have to catch up with all this in the morning. What was the name of the terrorist Tre Arrow who was caught in Canada and there was a guy in Eugene who was like a spokesman for them. I think his first name was Craig?

Tre Arrow (Michael Scarpitti) and his buddy Craig Rosebraugh. I don't have anything on Craig but Google will bring up plenty. Here's a couple articles on Tre.
