Joe, I can remember like it was last night the 1980 election of Reagan. CBS’ Cronkite and the NYT Tom Wicker looked like they’d been told their dogs had been run over.
They just could not hide it.
I remember 1980 too. John Chancellor signed on NBC's coverage at 7 PM. He looked into the camera and stated that "the indications are that there will be a decisive victory this evening for . . . Ronald Reagan." His pallor and shock gave the appearance of some great national tragedy being announced.
