Danville police are seeking a suspect in an attempted robbery Friday night on South Boston Road.
At about 11:30 p.m. a man entered the Airport Pure convenience store, displayed a silver handgun and demanded money from the clerk, according to a news release from the Danville Police Department.
The clerk pulled his own handgun from his waistband and the suspect fled the store. The clerk follow the suspect out and around the building and fired several shots into the air. As he fled, the suspect fired a single shot back at the clerk. No one was injured.
The suspect was described as a black male, 5-foot 8- inches tall in his 20s wearing a white shirt, dark pants and a red bandana over his face.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Danville Crime Stoppers at (434) 799-0000
Warning shots are just idiotic and often have tragic, unintended consequences that make all gun owners look bad.
Was anyone wearing their baseball cap backwards? Holding a handgun sideways? Having trouble keeping their pants up while running?
Why is this a “would-be” robber? It was an armed robbery, even if he didn’t get away with any loot.
When the robber fired at him, he should have returned fire as accurately as possible.
"He was shooting at me" is pretty good justification.

Poor aim?
Warning shots should always be fired at the perp, with the idea that killing him will be a warning to others.
And getting the NAALCP and the Justice Brothers to call you racist.
Wow, wonder how much that silver handgun costs.
Well, they may not have been “warning shots.” It is possible the clerk just “missed” and thought the “warning” story less likely to lead to prosecution by a DA eager to demonstrate his concern for the welfare and safety of fleeing minority criminals.
Yep. Stupid. He had him on the run and the perp was no longer a direct threat.
Back to the store. Lock the door. Call 911.
The only warning shot I’m ever going to fire is the one that gives the suspect a fraction of a second to get out of the way of a speeding bullet. If he can’t move like Keanu Reeves in The Matrix, the holes in his chest will be his warning that he’s going to die.
