Top gay rights leader: kids of religious families are ‘target demographic’ of anti-‘gay bullying’ ad

by Kathleen Gilbert

Fri Jun 10 7:18 PM EST

June 10, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - After the broadcast of a homosexualist advertisement during the family-friendly Fox show American Idol prompted outrage, the founder of the ad campaign has confirmed that such advertisements are intended to promote the message of the gay rights lobby to young children in households that normally wouldn’t support it. One conservative leader has now demanded that Google, Fox, and Disney-Pixar sever their ties with the campaign.

Peggy Nance of Concerned Women for America expressed outrage that the Fox network aired an “anti-gay bullying” advertisement, part of the “It Gets Better” campaign, during the extremely popular competition show.

Doubling as an advertisement for Google Chrome, the ad features several Hollywood personalities, and even a character from the popular Disney-Pixar movie series Toy Story, who speak directly to and encourage an audience of young people identifying as homosexual, telling them that “It gets better.”

On her blog, Nance called Fox’s choice of ad placement a betrayal of trust of conservative households everywhere.

“Apparently, American Idol with the help of Woody from Disney’s Toy Story, thinks that my 4th grader needs to be fully aware of the plight of teens who view themselves as ‘gay.’ I am sorry, but he doesn’t even know about heterosexual sex yet. Can you give me some room here?” wrote Nance. “I am ticked because I feel tricked. Fox blew it last night.

“The point is parents felt secure in allowing our entire families watch this show. They lured us into a false sense of security and broke trust with us last night.”

Dan Savage, a homosexual activist and founder of the It Gets Better project, shot back at Nance, saying that promoting their message to those with religious upbringing was precisely the point.

“Nance’s son was always our target demo,” wrote Savage. “Again, we don’t know if he’s gay. But he might be and, if he is, he needs to hear from us.”

The “primary goal” of the campaign, he explained, is “to reach LGBT kids who are being bullied by their peers and their families.”

“Now I don’t know if Nance’s son is gay, bi, or trans, but if he is, he needs to know more than most that it can get better for him too, that there’s hope for his future, and that the adult world isn’t entirely populated by hateful s***s like his mother,” he wrote, adding “here’s hoping” that “Nance’s son is gay.”

Nance later wrote to supporters that Savage’s response revealed “a serious threat to every family.”

“This campaign isn’t really about stopping gay bullying in school,” wrote Nance, who also demanded that Google, Fox and Disney sever ties with Savage’s campaign. “This is about using the power of prime time television and Google to infiltrate your home and your family and get their message to our sons and daughters, grandsons and granddaughters.”

My thoughts exactly!

We don’t watch much television in our house...it’s almost never on during the day (except to watch baseball). I was channel surfing to find a game the other night, and what I clicked through was...shocking. I have not lived in the backwoods all my life — I know what’s out there — but what is on television is just astounding. The problem is that people watch that junk and think it’s normal, and they emulate it.

I’m scared to death for my kids. They know homosexuality is a deviation from healthy, normal sexuality. They know it’s a sin. They also know they will be labeled as hateful, backwards, etc. Knowing it and experiencing it will be two different things, though.

At some point normal people will say “enough”.

I'm sorry, but no, they won't. Not if they haven't said "enough" by now and as long as "normal" people keep consuming the media bilge, like American Idol, that is pump into "normal" homes.

don't have cable

You are cheating your kids out of a million wonderful things. There's brilliant, educational, fun things on everywhere, all the time.

I’m in the same situation as you. Except for NCAA men’s basketball in the winter and old movies, TV for me now is mostly just noise of dubious morality. Too bad the system isn’t such where you get a total pay-per-view and only pay for the particular shows you want, like ball games, and not have to take the sewage.

““All we want is to be left alone!”” Has always been a lie.

Every lone, lonesome, unhappy, downcast child has been a target for the homesexual activist - which is probably most.

All over a minuscule segment of the population. But the ubiquitous PC “gay” agenda serves to give kids a bad case of homosexuality on the brain. That incessant PC propaganda, not Christian morality, is the source of the conflict and bullying.

How many conservatives even watch American Idol any more?

Never watched it, never will. Hours of sleep I lose over this fact: 0.

There are other places to find brilliant, educational, fun things where we don't help pay for the trash on TV.

What the hell is your 4th grader doing watching American Idol?

exactly! this season of AI featured disgusting performances by Lady Gaga... this is no longer a family show... i watched it the first 3 seasons--and it was pretty tame back then, if i remember correctly...

true.

...and a Muslim in England, posted a bunch of “gay free zone” posters in a Muslim area of the city.

...Gays objected. so he was arrested. and eventually punished, with...

a 100 lb fine. ($150?)

Gays are learning, that for the left, Islam trumps even gay rights, and women’s rights.
why? i don’t know...
it’s a mystery.

this is so silly... our kids read wonderful, classical literature, know Latin, are learning Greek... they study art, music, science and public speaking... are excellent swimmers and top-notch baseball players... both study piano, and our older son is teaching himself guitar... in fact he just picked up an electric guitar... they camp, build, plant, even cook... they are learning how to handle firearms, and they also feed the homeless.. they are witty, sharp and are at ease around all people... our yougest even has a talent agent... and they are only 10 and 15 years--with so much more ahead of them... all of this without television... and i would say, "all of this because they don't watch television."

There are things out there, sure, but to say they’re being “cheated”? Come on...

This is such an obvious choice I’m surprised more don’t make it. Thank you for helping pass civilization onto the next generation.

Indeed. Cheated. That's a response we hear every so often... the reasons vary but they usually have something in common.

Netflix is a great solution...lots of shows from the 80’s available, so I don’t have to worry about censoring today’s ‘family’ entertainment.

Re: Netflix

And commercial-free as a bonus. This past Christmas one of the guys in our office related a story about asking his twin daughters what they wanted for Christmas. Their reply: “We don’t know, nobody’s told us”. Ha! Paid for the annual subscription right there.

You expected better from television?

Wake up. Smell the coffee. Get rid of the TV.

Life is like a garden. Get rid of TV and the weeds it brings and you have tons of room to put in better things. Not saying that there isn’t good stuff on TV, it’s just that the time and effort to screen, select and unavoidably counter the rubbish outweighs all of the “wonderful things” that are there. Another great advantage is that you stop the messages of a declining culture dead in their tracks since the tube is the #1 source of enculturation and publik skoolz are #2.

Fertile soil, good seed and the rest is up to the parents.
