Twelve Zapata county residents have been arrested by federal authorities for allegedly conspiring to traffic marijuana meth and crack cocaine and conspiring to smuggle cash into Mexico.
The raids happened on June 10, 2010 in Zapata, Texas. An 11-count indictment accuses all 12 of conspiring together for the last five years beginning in June of 2006 and most recently on April 4th of this year. It also induces a notice of intent to forfeit approximately 18-million dollars from those arrested as proceeds of the alleged illegal trafficking activity. The indictment is the result of an over three year investigation of the multi-agency organized crime drug enforcement task force operation dubbed Los Lobos. Other arrests are pending.
I dunno, brother owns a fishing camp house just up from the island where they were shooting the other day. He stays armed the whole time he stays there. Had a rude awakening the other day when they had the shootout on the island. Said he almost decided he’s getting too long in the tooth to cowboy up so fast, lol. The boys have been fishing down there for years.
Sold our place there years ago. Tell your brother to take care.
Thanks, I will. They’re getting tired of being restricted because of safety. But they’ve invested a lot of time in improvements they’ll never get it back.
18 million is probably more than the assets in the Zapata county account. It is a very poor county with very few residents.
I remember many years ago when my dad and I went down to Zapata to fish Falcon Lake. The local banker had walked off with the entire treasury of the county—and it wasn’t insured by FDIC. Seems the only bank in town was a ‘private bank’ without any national or state charter.
