People forget that judges are lawyers who often where defense attorney’s earlier in their careers.

In the state of Washington, nothing could be further from the truth, especially amongst the members of the Washington State Supreme Court.

People forget that judges are lawyers who often where defense attorney’s earlier in their careers.

"In the state of Washington, nothing could be further from the truth, especially amongst the members of the Washington State Supreme Court."

Facts, facts they are tricky things aren't they?

1) Justice Debra L. Stephens - did criminal appeals in private practice.

2) Justice Tom Chambers - worked at Seattle law firm, Lycette, Diamond, and Sylvester as a defense trial and personal injury attorney. president of American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) dedicated to protecting and improving the right of trial by jury.

3) Associate Chief Justice Charles W. Johnson - "Justice Johnson opened his own law practice in 1977, representing clients in nearly every area of criminal and civil litigation."

4) Chief Justice Barbara Madsen - "Justice Madsen worked as a public defender in King and Snohomish counties"

5) Justice Gerry L. Alexander - private practice with Parr, Baker, Alexander and Cordes.

6) Justice Charles K. Wiggins - He practiced with a small Seattle law firm at the time known as Edwards, Sieh, Wiggins & Hathaway. focused primarily on representing hundreds of clients in appeals, both civil and criminal

As you can see most of these judges have private law practice experience on the criminal defense side. Only one I could find with clear biograph details indicating working the prosecution side.
