The best advice you could give a teenager is that, when choosing a significant other, they should watch how the person treats the "hired help."

I dodged a few bullets after witnessing some abusive behavior.

I think that is absolutely true.
I have a baby boomer friend whose teen daughter falls in love with some different guy at least every month, always on the basis of looks, then gets disappointed when the good character is missing. Geez, just try observing how he/she treats servers the first time you go out! Can’t hurt, might be helpful info if the person changes their behavior based on social status.

So true ! My 12 year old, I remark to him that people who do low paying jobs like cleaning toilets deserve as much respect as a person doing a high paid job if not more.
