Texas House strip funds from public hospitals performing elective abortions

AUSTIN — The House voted Wednesday to deny state funds to public hospitals that perform elective abortions or do business with entities that provide “abortion-related services.”

The amendment added by Rep. Wayne Christian, R-Center, to a comprehensive health care savings bill would deny funding to any hospital district that uses locally generated taxes to help pay for abortions, except those required in medical emergencies.

The taxpayer-supported hospitals also would lose state funding if they “contract or affiliate with other organizations, agencies or entities that provide or refer for abortion or abortion-related services.”

The provision was one of two anti-abortion measures tacked on to a big health care bill that is needed to help balance the two-year state budget. The other, by Rep. Bill Zedler, R-Arlington, would require women and their doctors to fill out and submit to the state detailed questionnaires about their abortions.

It’s a good start. Is there a Senate it has to pass also? Will Perry sign it?

sweet God all mighty !

They FINALLY woke up to the fact there was a TON of things they could do legally to make it hard, costly, and nearly impossible to have an abortion without actually having to deal with overturning Roe V Wade!

They can TAX the procedure!

They can for abortion providers to fill out a MOUNTAIN of paperwork for EACH abortion!

They can have a cooling off period.

They can require providers to buy EXPENSIVE licenses to practice the procedure.

They can require providers to undergo constant re-education classes.

They can require health departments to inspect them once a month or more.

They can threaten to revoke the medical licenses of any abortion doctor found to be in violation of ANY of the above!

They can say that abortions can only be performed within designated “abortion rights zones” similar to the free speech zones they love setting up.

They could make it illegal to have a clinic within X miles of a church or school.

They could make all abortion doctors have to register themselves with notices then being sent out to their neighbors alerting them to the fact that a registered abortion doctor is living in their neighborhood.

Abortion certification could be revoked for ANYTHING even a parking ticket.

I could go ON and ON ! there are TONS of things state governments COULD have been doing to stop abortions all these years but haven't for unknown reasons.

They should have to do a costly environmental impact assessment for each abortion clinic to open.

Women should have to take a 3 day abortion safety course to be properly licensed to exercise their “right” just like gun owners. And maybe even be required to see a psychologist.

Abortion clinics should be required to place GIANT warning signs on the outside of their buildings warning of the dangers of abortions just like tobacco companies are required to put on their packs!

I'd like to see a giant 10 foot skull and cross bones on the wall of each abortion clinic with a sign next to it that read Abortion Kills!

The ideas just keep on coming!!!!

The state could set up a legal fund paid for with abortion providers fees that pays the legal costs of women who want to sue their previous abortion providers for mental anguish or anything else.

Like nina0113 said, it is a start. Texas did the sonogram law as well.

I fully expect the feds and Holder’s crew to start filing lawsuits.

Fine. Throw MORE light on the communist agenda administration in the White House.

Gov. Perry should put the TSA bill back on the call list for a vote if for no other reason than to give dee-cee the bird.
