75% Support Showing Photo ID At The Polls
Rasmussen Reports ^ | June 9, 2011 | Scott Rasmussen

Posted on 06/09/2011 11:31:48 AM PDT by Hojczyk

Support remains high for requiring voters to show photo identification before being allowed to cast their ballots. An increasing number of states across the country are putting that requirement into law.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 75% of Likely U.S. Voters believe voters should be required to show photo identification such as a driver’s license before being allowed to vote. Just 18% disagree and oppose such a requirement. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Eighty-five percent (85%) of Republicans support a photo ID requirement at the polls, as do 77% of voters not affiliated with either major party and 63% of Democrats. But then support for such a law is high across virtually all demographic groups.

Supporters of photo ID laws say they will prevent fraud at the polls; opponents insist the laws will discourage many including minorities and older Americans from voting.

By a 48% to 29% margin, voters think that letting ineligible people vote is a bigger problem than preventing legitimate voters from casting a ballot.

A plurality (46%) of Democrats thinks it’s more common for eligible voters to be denied their right to vote. Seventy-two percent (72%) of Republicans and a plurality (44%) of voters not affiliated with either party, on the other hand, believe that illegal voting is more prevalent.

This surprises me since 40% of the public is democratic, I thought they all favored open elections.

Voting should neither be simple nor convenient, there should some effort to prepare yourself for the process.

Unless of course you only want those that feed at the public trough to have a voice. I have many time seen nursing homes with mentally incompetent patients loaded into busses and taken to the polling place, want to venture a guess how they voted?

when i goto vote i'm usually spoken to by name by at least one person at the sign in table, the same as almost everybody else who lives here

but i wouldn't mind showing id here, if it keeps those living elsewhere where that's not the case who shouldn't be voting from voting

75% of Americans are getting sick of all the nonsense, and itch for liberty to be preserved.

“dipping fingers in ink, too. keeps the democrats from busing people from one precinct to another...”

Seriously that’s probably the real reason for their “motor voter law” which made it all but imposable to get people off the voter registration list until they failed to vote for like 5 elections.

Someone could easily “register to vote” in many different states and counties.

I think almost everyone should vote on the same day, and sending ballots to someone’s home should only be done for those who are homebound due to age or disability only.

In my state all mail-in ballots have been legislated by the state legislature. The era of the poll-type vote are gone. No longer will they deal with the bubble-dot ballot optical scanners that I suspect were subject to electronic tampering. Now they can stuff mail-in ballots from fictitious voters. The optical ballot scanners will be sold off to other states that use them.

The cheating criminal dems would still find a way around it. How hard would it be to phony-up a photo ID?

DW-Slutz has finally hit upon a great idea: keep Dems from voting.

I agree to a point. I think that people take it for granted. But it should be easy.

But if it is ever like a visit to the DMV, I am going to be angry. Very angry.

Unfortunately, there are cheaters. Should we make it difficult or almost impossible for the rest? I’d prefer to punish the cheaters harshly.

Nursing homes... Sounds like fraud. Did you report them?
