FULL TITLE: Katie Couric shows off the lavish Hamptons house where she will go to relax when she becomes talk show host

After this week announcing plans to become a daytime talk show host, Katie Couric has opened the doors of the home where she will be going to relax at the weekends.

The 54-year-old, who on Monday was revealed as ABC’s replacement for Oprah, showed off her seven bedroom country retreat in the Hamptons.

‘I decided that I’m really a beach person and would go to a house in the Hamptons much more often, especially since I have lots of great friends there,’ said Miss Couric who already owned a country house in Millbrook New York.

‘I wanted something casual and relaxed—something without a lot of trees. I didn’t want to be deep in the woods,’ she told Hamptons Cottages and Gardens magazine in an article by Andrea Hope Smith.

The former Today Show host paid $6.3 million for the two-storey home in East Hampton, New York.

She said she fell in love with it immediately. ‘The rooms were spacious and had lots of sun, and as soon as I walked in I could picture my family being there,’ she said.

‘Its proximity to town was convenient for my daughters, and it was close enough to the ocean, on a pretty street that wasn’t very busy. It met all the requirements.’ ‘I love doing all the typical things in the Hamptons, like making dinner with friends,’ she added. ‘The minute I walk in the door here, I’m able to exhale in a way that I can never quite do in the city.”

During the week, Katie Couric and her two daughters, Ellie and Carrie, live in an apartment worth a reported $3.2 million on Manhattan's Park Avenue.

It’s the American dream: no talent, no class, and yet it’s possible to still become rich and famous.

If there ever was a pair of losers, it's Katie Couric and Jeff Zucker.

The free market is generally fair in regards to appropriate financial rewards for talent and effort.

Notable and glaring exceptions are Hollywood and BigMedia.

Beautiful home for a liberal crank...she pro’bly paid millions for it...when there are much bigger and better homes in Texas for less than half the moneywith acreage. I guess she worked hard at being a liberal crank...but her pedantic, blinky-eyed, squinty-faced attempts at gotcha moments tanked a revered CBS news spot. But then, oh well...who better to replace Okra...another sinking ship.

All week we’ve been hearing all about how Andrew Breitbart “selectively edits” his raw material and therefore can’t be a “real journalist”...and nothing whatsoever about Sarah Palin selectively edited hatchet job this so-called journalist authored.

Seven bedrooms. Perhaps she is thinking of opening a homeless shelter.

“I predict that Katie’s “talk show” will have lower ratings than her “news show” and she will quickly exit the airwaves.”

I’ve never been able to watch Katie and never thought she’d last as long as she has. I get the feeling she must have something HUGE on someone — like one of those evil rich folks she loves to hate on.

I have to go against the grain to say the house looks good. It has everything without being monstrously large.

I wonder if Katie saw the exuberant farewell party NBC gave her replacement, Meredith Viera, on the the Today show yesterday? If I recall correctly, Katie’s send-off was somewhat subdued. The party began the moment Couric left.

The comments on the story were interesting.

Several people commented on the mystery of how a person with so little talent commanded such a large salary while driving her program, the CBS Evening News, into ratings oblivion. A couple then said something along the lines of "well, I guess being a liberal is a big help in the NYC culture."

That got me thinking this: "but there are tons of liberals in NYC, and tons of them are in the media business. What's so special about Katie?"

An answer occurred to me: liberalism, and the strong negative emotions -- including anger, and worse -- cause rapid aging in people, especially women. I'm thinking here of Meredith Viera in particular, but those of you who watch cable TV can probably think of others.

By the time someone in the media bizz knows enough about life to be successful as a network anchor, they're usually no longer a spring chicken. I'm talking about knowledge about how to be professional, how to handle high-powered people, when to fight and when to back off, things like that. As well as countless details of a more "technical nature," having to do with appearance, health/lifestyle (good nutrition, keeping the partying at a managable level, stress management).

By the time a person gets to this level of live knowledge and experience, the stress and angst of liberalism has often taken its toll on their outward appearance, particularly in their faces.

Only a very lucky few have all the life experience and knowledge, coupled with the will and the desire, and, at the same time, the constitution and body chemistry necessary to resist the aging process of seething resentment and anger of liberalism.

Think of Linda Ellerbee, co-anchor of NBC News Overnight back in the 1980s.

Stated another way, in order to promulgate the liberal line in the way the political levels of the media empire want to see, you have to be a committed leftist; you've got to buy into it all the way, at the emotional level. That's corrosive to most (but not all) people, and it kicks the aging process into high gear. This affects women more than men; not fair, maybe, but reality. Very few women anchors combine the skills and maturity necessary to make it at the highest levels with the ability to stay young-looking while being a committed liberal.

I think Katie Couric had those ingredients. I think she had that rare combination.

She might have been more successful if she had been brought in earlier; unfortunately, Dan Rather had to do the crash-and-burn routine before that could happen. By the time Katie got her shot, the new media had taken hold, and Katie was passe, along with her message and her ilk. Boo hoo.

It is a rather nice home, but consider how insanely overpriced the Hamptons are when a $6+ million house puts you five blocks from the ocean.

I dunno... she wasn't gross, right? I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt here.

I mean, is Huma really the beauty that so many think she is?

I have no idea why Huma came to mind.

The Hollywood cuties who keep their liberalism at the air-head level can stay cute for a while.

The ones who internalize it end up looking like Whoopie Goldberg.

The conservatives, of course, stay looking like Janine Turner.
