Lawyers actually do OK in prison, to the extent prison can be OK. Simple reason: everyone in there wants out, and they need a lawyer. Post-conviction relief efforts and appeals are the lawyers’ “Stay Safe in Jail” card. Even the inmates who have nothing to lose, and have exhausted all appeals, will be kept in line by the prisoners who still want the appeals written on their behalf.
