The traffic in the relics of saints and martyrs has traditionally been smiled upon by the Vatican while at the same time notoriously known to be the playground of forgers and con artists that has lightened the slush funds of many wealthy clergy and nobles attempting to buy their way into the Gates of Whatever.

I’d wager that less than 5% of such relics dating from the Rennaissance to the present are authentic and 0% of anything older not being a complete and utter shuck.

i absolutely agree with most of that. i believe most were fakes. i understand human nature and greed.

...and, if the shroud were fake, it wouldn’t change my faith. as others said better, it doesn’t need to be real.

however, i have read a lot about it. and there has been some good attempts to duplicate it, that get parts of it correct. but never all. and there has been nothing conclusive to prove it a fake.
Swordmakers posts are excellent. (like his #40). and i admit, he is more clear and concise than i am. but, there IS plenty of information, about the cotton repair weave, and the progressively older carbon dates as you go away from it.
and no one has duplicated it completely, or even successful proved how it was made.
...if one day someone does, fine. but, no one has yet.

now if you want to talk about the archeological evidence for the Book of Mormon... ;)
