Healthcare battle unfolds in Atlanta court

Lawyers for President Barack Obama sought on Wednesday to stave off the biggest legal challenge yet to healthcare reform, his signature domestic policy achievement.

The administration presented oral arguments as it appealed a ruling by a Florida judge who declared the Affordable Care Act unconstitutional, backing claims by 26 U.S. states that individuals cannot be required to buy health insurance.

The cornerstone of the law is a provision requiring Americans to buy health insurance by 2014 or face a fine. Opponents say that punishes inactivity and exceeds the authority granted to Congress by the Constitution to regulate interstate commerce.

I expect that this will go to the Supreme Court. I just hope there are no retirements until 2013.

Aren't people who won't get off of their asses to get a job making economic decisions that effect everyone? Can I argue that welfare and food stamps should be canceled because I have to pay taxes to pay for it?

In the meantime, Indiana University, a public, state supported university, is buying up private health facilities and buying out doctors stakes in these facilities across the state.

Is federal money financing this conversion to public health facilities?

IU Health

IU Health buying docs in hospital ventures

I don't understand the business aspects but there has got to be massive amounts of money moving. I suspect Indiana is not the only state undergoing this transformation.

I wonder what will happen to them if ObamaCare gets repealed.

If they want to call it a tax then they should make Obama announce it publicly and then raise our taxes accordingly like every other tax.
If they dare!

This administration is gambling that Obamacare will be too big to repeal by then.

obamacare is not getting repealed nor defunded. neither the Establishment Republicans or Democrats want it either repealed or defunded. The Tea Party Republicans tried but were beaten back by the Establishment Republicans and now have been neutralized by them. The obama Administration is in no rush to appeal the Unconstitutional Rluling by judge Vinson until they can insure that Vinson's ruling will be overturned. Meanwhile obamacare proceeds full speed ahead.

We should have taken to the streets when it was first rammed down our throats, but, we allowed ourselves to be pacified by the Republican Party's "We will defund it" and "We will repeal it" if you will elect Republicans bull.

Even now the Establishment Republicans are trying to stack the deck to insure that mitt will be the Republican nominee.
