Adele has sparked an online backlash over her recent comments surrounding the amount of tax she has to pay.
In a recent interview with Q, the 23-year-old ranted about having to hand over 50 percent of her earnings to the tax man.
She said (via Metro), "I'm mortified to have to pay 50 percent! [While] I use the NHS, I can't use public transport any more. Trains are always late, most state schools are s**t and I've gotta give you, like, four million quid -- are you having a laugh?"
She added, 'When I got my tax bill in from '19' [her debut album], I was ready to go and buy a gun and randomly open fire."
However, that attitude isn't sitting well online, with many taking to Twitter to voice their disgust.
Outroversion tweeted, "God that Adele pop singer is such a moron. Her comments on tax are both ignorant and self-aggrandising. I'm pretty sure it's just her way."
Wolfsbaine1 wrote, "People like Adele of the rubbish girly music p**s me off, her four million tax bill means she had eight, how much f**king money do you need b***h."
It fell to Nicklibertine to pinpoint why so many people have reacted to the singer's "woes." They tweeted, "Got my paycheque today. Looking at the amount I take home after tax and national insurance is just depressing. F**k you Adele."

Welcome to the Conservative Movement, Adele. . . . (grin)
I can’t blame her. She earned the money, not the government.
They need the subsidy from Adele and similar jillionaires to keep the racket afloat. But nobody dares put it in those terms.
She is mistaken if she things that she is only paying 50%. That’s just the start. The other 50%, the government will chip away at that via sales taxes, VATs, fees, etc. whenever possible. In reality she’ll be paying closer 60-75%.
Meanwhile the government will claim everyone else has to pay so much in taxes because people like Adele won’t pay their ‘fair share’. As seen from the twitter comments, lots of idiots willing to believe it too.
Note Bene: the backlash is from the leaches who enjoy the product of her labor without having to earn it themselves.
If an American, that would be a Democratic voter. They love that class envy thing.
“Wolfsbaine1 wrote, “People like Adele of the rubbish girly music p**s me off, her four million tax bill means she had eight, how much f**king money do you need b***h.” “
And, therein is the issue in a nutshell. Governments and progressive movements around the globe have successfully implanted their guiding mantra that there is some notion of ‘fairness’ required in the distribution of wealth in society. There is no room for personal achievement measured by the accumulation of wealth.
So what if Adele made millions? That was the result of her efforts and the efforts of those in support of her. IT IS HERS. The government should have no ‘right’ to any of it.
The only proper tax in support of government is consumption based.
How much money does she need? It is not about need. It is her money. I don’t want people deciding how much people need and then steeling the “excess”.
BTW, Amy is much more articulate and seems to know International Standard English pronunciations ~ in between bouts of total lunacy of course ~ she's a junky ~ "Rehab" wasn't just another song in her life.
Interesting comment:
“her four million tax bill means she had eight, how much f**king money do you need b***h.”
It’s not what she made but what she has.
Looter mindset on display.
Marxism is on the march everywhere while egalitarianism withers.
Maybe there needs to be a new international egalitarian organization, something like Capitalists Without Borders to support egalitarian ideals and policies throughout the world.
The best guarantee of freedom is the freedom of others.
She could have had it all. LOL
Okay, he didn't really say b***h, but basically they are saying exactly the same thing.
Amy WInehouse burned her candle at both ends. I don’t know if she will ever again have a hit, but she gave off a lovely light.
Can’t she move to France and keep it all?
Didn’t the Rolling Stones do something like that in the 1960’s?
The Netherlands seems especially friendly to musicians. U2 moved their production company there recently. (I annoyed one U2 fan here when I was calling them a Dutch band)
Adele has now seen the light, and will do what all British musicians do (and basically all successful British) — move to another country.
