Senator Snowe said a proposed rule by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) limiting total servings of starchy vegetables (potatoes, corn, green peas, and lima beans) to one cup per week and eliminating these vegetables from breakfast meals is not grounded in scientific data and does not make economic sense. In letters to First Lady Michelle Obama, founder of the Lets Move campaign, and USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack, Senator Snowe urged reevaluation of the nutritional and economic impacts of this proposal.
Senator Snowe recently joined her colleagues in calling on President Obama to resolve a discrepancy within the Administration regarding womens nutrition during pregnancy. The issue involves conflicting federal guidance on the amount of seafood women should consume during pregnancy. Snowe is concerned that while the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have issued new guidelines suggesting women consume at least eight ounces of seafood per week, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is still issuing guidance that is nearly a decade old.
Pre and post natal care is too an important issue on which to send mixed messages. The FDA needs to update its recommendation, based on the most recent and reliable science, and ensure women know the benefits of consuming seafood, said Snowe.

THE POTATO: In terms of nutrition, the potato is best known for its carbohydrate content (approximately 26 grams in a medium potato). The predominant form of this carbohydrate is starch. A small but significant portion of this starch is resistant to digestion by enzymes in the stomach and small intestine, and so reaches the large intestine essentially intact. This resistant starch is considered to have similar physiological effects and health benefits as fiber: It provides bulk, offers protection against colon cancer, improves glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity, lowers plasma cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations, increases satiety, and possibly even reduces fat storage.[57][58][59] The amount of resistant starch in potatoes depends much on preparation methods.
Eat more potatoes! The potato actually ranks highest in potassium per serving among the 20 best-selling fruits and vegetables in the United States (ACNielsen).
States that grow the most potatoes effected by the new limited consumption menu in school program advised under Michelle Obama, founder of the Lets Move campaign.
2010 Petition Of Independent Researchers Urging FDA To Update Fish Advice. Over the past six years a wealth of science has been produced that shows the real risk to pregnant women and unborn children is in not eating enough fish. There is persuasive new evidence that consumption of more than 12 ounces per week of most marketplace species will actually improve fetal neurodevelopment. This improvement occurs in spite of methyl-mercury in most, if not all fish."
Let them eat aragula!!
Let the kids go out and play without everyone calling the police on them, apartment managers threatening to evict the family because of them and everyone scaring them into thinking they will be kidnapped.
If Michelle had her way out children would be sent off to work farms growing organic vegitables. Of course, that would kill the capitalist farms who could not compete with the free labor the Communist farms had.
The fad-diet-of-the-season strikes again as the newest tendentious study hits the spotlights.
Not all “starchy” veggies are created equal, and many (even potatoes) carry a goodly amount of fiber compared to traditional bread. If you go to your grocer’s freezer and look for the “diet” dinners such as Weight Watchers, Stouffers Light, etc. you’ll see they don’t shy away from these vegetables.
I hate seafood. I MIGHT eat a tuna salad sandwich on occasion though. lol.
I love taters!!
Has anyone else noticed that the wood supports for steel freeway guard rails are being replaced by steel I beams? Score one for union steelworkers, strike one for conservative timber-producing states.
The b-tch will always sell her soul to the highest bidder!
and you can be sure that the next time Obama needs her vote to cram-down some piece of crap legislation the school kiddies will be eating nothing BUT Maine Potatoes for the next fifteen months...

And yes Maine has a new Republican Governor LePage who is really upsetting old dawg Democrats!
In the last two years, though, Politico notices a lot more party-line votes from Snowe amid rumors of a feud with Harry Reid. The spat apparently started with the ObamaCare bill, from which Reid excluded Snowe along with most of the other Republicans in the Senate. Snowe had provided a key vote for Reid on the Porkulus bill despite Reid and Nancy Pelosi locking Republicans from drafting that bill as well. Snowes voting record has tilted much more towards the GOP since then, which is why Politico speculates that Snowe is voting rightward out of spite with Reid which has made Reids life a lot tougher in the past two years writes Hotair.
