NBC's Lauer Claims Breitbart Breaking Weiner Story Violated Conservative Principles

Kyle Drennen

June 7, 2011

In an interview with Andrew Breitbart on Tuesday's NBC Today, co-host Matt Lauer suggested the conservative blogger should not have broken news of the scandal involving Congressman Anthony Weiner: "Did you worry that – you know, as a conservative, you don't want government in people's bedrooms. And so did you stop and have a debate with yourself about that?"

Moments earlier, Breitbart had noted feeling some sympathy for Weiner during Monday's press conference: "I felt so unbelievably sad for this guy." Lauer responded by wondering why that sympathy didn't keep the BigGovernment.com creator from posting Weiner's racy tweet last week: "But if you're sad for the guy then, did you not consider that at some point you might be sad for him when you first posted that photo ten days ago?"

In response to Lauer's bizarre assertion that reporting on the scandal somehow went against conservative values, Breitbart explained: "I'm not the government. You know, he tweeted to, you know, 45,000 people that image. A person sent it to me. I can't think of a world in which that isn't news."

Later in the interview, Lauer was suspicious of a more graphic x-rated photo of Weiner that Breitbart had not released: "Is this, Andrew, some kind of x-rated insurance policy?...Because people have characterized it as something more." Breitbart replied: "I don't like to think of it that way."

Lauer pressed further, sparking this exchange:

LAUER: Under no circumstance will you release that? In other words, let's say Anthony Weiner supporters target you in some other way?

BREITBART: If Anthony Weiner decides to make this a jihad against me for his interpretation of putting me into this situation, you know what, I'll take that as a – you know, you said an insurance policy. Maybe. I can't foresee a circumstance in which I would release that. I don't think I want to put his family through that type of thing. But for instance, I've already started to hear words that Megan, the woman who came forth, people are prying through her private life. And they're-

LAUER: So would you use that photo to protect these women?

BREITBART: That's – you know, I'm not thinking of it that way, but I certainly have it in my possession. And I guarantee you he would use this against me and the people on the left side of the blogosphere would have used this against me. I could have put that out there and his career would have been over today.

In his final question to Breitbart, Lauer wondered: "Had you come into possession of photographs of a Republican congressman that were similar in nature to the photograph you received of Anthony Weiner, would you have been as quick to post that photograph?" Breitbart replied: "Yes....I'm repulsed when it's, when it's, you know, Larry Craig that's involved in these type of behaviors or Ensign, the Senator from Nevada....these guys put themselves in a blackmail-able situation."

Breitbart then added: "The problem is, is that there is the mainstream media. They've got the resources and they're usually there to cover it. My contention, it's my belief, is that there is a double standard in the media in how they treat Republicans and Democrats."

“Lauer has no principles.”

Actually, your statement applies to all of NBC, inclusive of it’s so-called executive management.
And, don’t get me started on that skin boil organization MSNBC. They’re a walking freak show

Obama and his ilk do two things well: 1) talk. 2) thuggery. And it goes way back. I recently saw a video, "Walt and El Grupo," which is basically aboiyt Disney's good will tour to Latin America. What caught my attention was the way thetour happened. Disney had just built his studio with his earnings and so he was in need of Bank loans. All of a sudden, a union organizer threatend to shut the place down. He has got hold of some of the new employees, guys who have no personal relationship with Walt. Walt agree to let the union come in--after a vote. The organizer says, no vote. You deal with me. So we get a wildcat strike that shuts down the studio and leaves Disney high and dry. The State department comes in with an offer of $500,000 and a promise to get the strike fixed. Walt and his people go on tour. It is pretty successful. Walt comes home and finds that the strike has been settled by a typical government way., They cut the baby down the middle. Half of the people let go are long-timers. Half are the new guys. The animation feature they made is second rate because the new guys don't "get" what made Disney earlier animation features great. Too much reliance on gags. Disney begins to back away from animation. It is as if Pixar had been taken over by the AFL-CIO, and Lassiter forced to take in people who don't get the culture that has made Pixar a success. The dead hand of politics.

Given his stand on drilling and the war on terror, global warming and crap and charade, one suspects that Weiner is already on the Middle East payroll.

“NBC’s Lauer Claims Breitbart Breaking Weiner Story Violated Conservative Principles”

Pissed because your MSM was SCOOPED yet again? Or because you didn’t get a bonus for NOT reporting it?

Very well put, and I think 100% correct.

This has nothing to do with private behavior in the bedroom. Weiner is the 21st Century’s version of a flasher. What he did is no differant than a guy in a raincoat exposing himself to women in the park. Instead he used his blackberry and computer instead of a raincoat.

and Breitbart getting a $1 settlement to pay for the "damages" that he can actually document.

Easy stuff. He should get a shrink to establish psychological damage to his children. There's nothing like a free private in-home tutor to make up for and preclude the hassle of getting harassed at school.

If the rumor I've seen floating around out there today about this mysterious photo is even remotely true, then the only question left to answer is whether Weiner leaves office by resigning or by doing harm to himself.

Well hell, he could get off on S&M! (After all, he did marry into Hillary's happy little circile.) This could be FUN!

If Lauer had a naked picture of Sarah Palin he would be having emissions down the front of his pants as he exposed it on national TV.

Or even Tina Fey. That would be good enough for him.

It’s a darn good thing Breitbart got this information on Weiner before CHINA, RUSSIA, or IRAN not to mention lobbyists and assorted ME enemies did..... Look at his voting record. Didn’t they?

Matt Lauer's disgusting cheapshot - the video

In this video you will see Lauer show a portion of his recent interview with George Bush during which he asked Bush about Kanye West's declaration in the aftermath of Hurrican Katrina that, "George Bush doesn't like black people." Bush responded:

"It was one of the most disgusting moments of my presidency."

End of clip, and now back at the studio, here is what Lauer looks into the camera and says:

"Here's a two-term president who ran the country during Katrina, 9/11, wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the financial meltdown, and he's pointing the finger at Kanye West and that incident as the worst moment in his presidency."

See what Lauer did there? He turned Bush's phrase, "one of the most disgusting moments", into, "the worst moment", in order to paint Bush as having been more concerned about the inane rantings of a self-absorbed hip-hop artist than he was about the mass murder of 3,000 Americans, the loss of our best and brightest young people in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, and the economic mess.

Matt Lauer is a despicable little worm.
I'd like to hocker right in his puffy stinking face.

As Brian Williams bowed to Obama, perhaps NBC’s Lauer can bow to Weiner.
