I listed to the news account as well as watched the tape. It appears to me that the young cadet was beaten because he wasn't sufficiently respectful of the artificial perimeter drawn around LaBelle's limo.

Yeah, there are nuts out there who shoot celebs. But the curbside of an airport with all the officers around (parking nazis, TSA agents, etc.) seems like a fairly unlikely place for such an incident.

I'm not sure how close King got to HRH's limo or the conversation which took place prior to the beating. The state of intoxication of King (or lack thereof) is also irrelevant. The beating was entirely unnecessary given that, even in a worst case scenario short of King being armed (a virtual impossibility given that he just got off a flight), the burly body guards could simply have pushed or picked up King by an arm each to move him outside their artificial perimeter.

Too many celebs seem to have the idea that they are royalty even as their claim to fame is based on getting the public to look at them while, at the same time, wanting an artificial perimeter around them on those occasions when they can't avoid getting close to the same public.

“artificial perimeter” what BS, this is a public facility if Labelle wants privacy she can go somewhere else. He has every rught to stand there.

“Too many celebs seem to have the idea that they are royalty..”

Isn’t that the truth! I understand that celebrities get shot or hurt but the diva was in her limo. I thought the issue was he was too close to her luggage. I don’t care how much the luggage cost.. it isn’t equal to someone getting the snot beat out of him. The police having their photos taken with the celebrity afterward says it all. Gee, I get my picture taken with a known singer! Aren’t I cool? The whole thing stinks to me and I feel very sorry for this young cadet and truly wish him the best.

It was not impossible that King would be armed coming off a flight. You can transport your handgun in checked baggage. If he had a Texas CCW license he could have gone to the mens room with his bag, retrieved his stuff, loaded up, and be armed going out the terminal door.
