Keach Hagey
Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) doled out his first apologies to his wife and his constituents, but also apologized to the media and to Andrew Breitbart specifically during a long and rambling press conference in which he seemed determined to answer every last reporters question.
Breitbart had demanded an apology a few minutes before from the same podium, where he climbed after Weiner did not show up on time to his own press conference.
Id like an apology from him, Breitbart said. This was his strategy, to blame me so Im here for some vindication.
Breitbart said he lost his Memorial Day weekend to fending off accusations that he had been the one to hack Weiners Twitter account, after Weiner tried to distance himself from the lewd tweet that appeared there and was later picked up by Breitbarts website by claiming he had been hacked.
He claimed to have one more photo that he would not release because it was too vulgar.
Im trying to do the decent thing here and not release the photo, he said, hinting that such restraint might be tested if Weiner continued to suggest he had been hacked, allowing his supporters to continue to cast blame on Breitbart.
Weiner chose a strategy of total media prostration though he was firm in his refusal to resign.
I dont know what I was thinking, he said. This was destructive thing to do. I apologize for doing it.
After being asked several times, he apologized directly to the media, and to the man who had unexpectedly served as his warm-up act.
I apologize to Andrew Breitbart, Weiner said.
The MSM won’t be able to tolerate this: a liberal getting caught lying by Breitbart and admitting it. There will be many more hit pieces on Breitbart in the near future.
...and the winner is [not Wiener, but] ‘Brietbard’!
I do not believe this. Weiner would never apologize to Breitbart.....this has to be a lie......IBTZ
Anthony “Tony the Tube” Weiner is obviously fit for Congressional duty.
i did not, er, did twitter, tweet, that photo, but i am in good shape and therefore, it is art appreciation and i will not resign.
we need people in government to start acting nobly and behaving humbly instead of the other way around.

He lawyered up and saw the civil suits flying his way. He has been well coached on damage control, but not on the continuing blowback if he stays in office. Discovery is going to be real interesting.
They asked him about 3 times and he didn’t mention Breitbart’s name until the 3rd time, and quickly added “all the other media...”
Maybe Breitbart should still show the photo. What if it had a little black bar across the middle? But still showed that it was Weiner and it was wiener.
Still protected by the MSM. Not a one asked if he was seeking professional help or psych counseling.
This is a guy who is not only a deeply disturbed predator of young women, he’s also the laughingstock of the Democratic Party.
I can just hear the House of Representatives when there is a roll call vote; the clerk calls out “Mr. Weiner” and the Huse dissolves into snickers.
I saw the press conference and the apology to AB had to be literally be drug from the skank’s twisted lips.
He wasn’t crying from remorse but the fact of being caught stone cold with his junk in his trembling hand!
I’m surprised he hasn’t blamed the internet for all this.
Why did that young Republican congressman resign for just posting a bare-chested photo on the internet?
Is Mr. Weiner exempt from the same standard of behaviour?
Just asking.
Will the Republicans pay a guy to show up in a gigantic weiner suit at every one of his campaign rallies?
Weiner needs to step down...The left needs to demand it and so does the right!
Yes, Weiner, like all Dims, are exempt from standards in our political world.
One thing I’ll say though, I think he’ll be much less of a “voice” on the left for a long time. He is years away from being able to be brash again, which means he’s neutered.
Got it right this time !
