Rosvertol seeks Algeria Mi-28 export deal

Russia's Rosvertol attack helicopter producer said on Monday it is in talks with Algeria over exports of its Mi-28NE for delivery from 2012-2017.

"A commercial proposal has already been sent [to Algiers] and discussions will begin this year," Rosvertol General Director Boris Slyusar said. "We hope to sign a contract for delivery in 2012-2017."

Rosvertol is the attack helicopter arm of the state-owned Russian Helicopters holding company.

If successful, the deal will be the second export sale of the night-capable Mi-28NE, which is currently being introduced to the Russian armed forces. Venezuela ordered 10 in 2010, but the vehicles have not yet been delivered.

The Mi-28NE is a two-seat dedicated attack helicopter, equipped with a mast-mounted millimeter-wave fire control radar and advanced night vision optical systems.

The machine is armed with the Ataka anti-armor missile system.

Algeria already operates the Mi-25, an export derivative of the Russian forces Mi-24 attack helicopter.

Yes, it looks like once again Russkie choppers will enjoy better speed, range, firepower and armored protection than their Western counterparts and the US Apache.

Can you tell me anything our ships do better than the Russkies? Thanks for posting this most destressing news suk.

The difference is who flies them. Our pilots are better.

Relax, STD. First of all, those specs are as far as I can tell (from the engine ratings) for the AH-64A.

The AH-64D LongBow Apache have twin 2,000 SHP turbines, 476 km combat radius, a cruise speed of 265 km/h (or 165 knots, NOT km/h), a max takeoff weight of 10,400 kg, and in spite of the chart identifying the AH-64 as "the main attack helicopter of the U.S. Air Force since the 1980s," has never been flown by the USAF, it is flown by the U.S. Army.

The two aircraft (on paper) are very close, so I wouldn't worry too much about the Apache vs. Mil comparison in that chart.

Russian/Soviet aircraft have historically has excellent flight characteristics. Their achilles heel has always been weak electronics.

One thing US ships usually do well is perform in combat. Can’t say the same about most Russian systems!!

Raw range, firepower are not the only issue if you don’t have electronic brains and training/infrastructure chains to use your aircraft effectively.
