Some of the most interesting developments in health care policy these days aren't taking place in Washington. They're taking place in Sacramento and the rest of California, where public officials, private sector leaders, and activists are working to implement the Affordable Care Act.
California is not the only state moving aggressively to implement health care reform. For all of the news that opponents of the law have generated, several states have embraced it. Mostly it's more liberal states, like Maryland...
But even some more conservative states are moving forward. ... the governor in Alabama has issued an executive order to prepare an exchange...
Governor Jerry Brown is reducing Medicaid spending. But California's Medicaid already pays so little that recipients can have difficulty finding doctors willing to see them, particularly specialists. Taking so much money out of Medicaid now could mean that, come 2014, millions of Californians get insurance that, although better than nothing, offers inferior access to care.

“Did ya happen to notice the tens of millions that lost their jobs, careers, businesses, had their hours cut, had their benefits reduced, were forced to go from full time to part time, or had their health care benefits completely slashed and or eliminated due to cost/economy? “
And how many of those canceled their cable, moved into a smaller apartment, stopped buying clothes, stopped buying TVs, etc. — I bet they are continuing their lifestyle, the one thing they don’t buy is health insurance. There is COBRA, you can get health insurance for at least 18 months, you just have to pay for it yourself.
It’s all a matter of priorities.
Conservatives don’t advocate personal irresponsibility and reliance on the government. Your views expressed on this thread are NOT those of a conservative, more similar to those of a communist agitator, trying to rile up people to “attack the rich”. Pathetic.
You're a little slow huh?
Did ya happen to notice the tens of millions that lost their jobs, careers, businesses, had their hours cut, had their benefits reduced, were forced to go from full time to part time, or had their health care benefits completely slashed and or eliminated due to cost/economy?
But you still got yours right?
how many of those canceled their cable...stopped buying clothes
Food is cheap.
You could not be *anymore* detached from reality.
“Governor Jerry Brown is reducing Medicaid spending. But California’s Medicaid already pays so little that recipients can have difficulty finding doctors willing to see them, particularly specialists.”
Sounds like it’s already there.
Family policy at work went from $1900 a month to $2100 this month.
LOL!
People are already riled up slick...
Again, you're *TOTALLY* detached from reality of this situation.
Yearly in NYC and its by no means a cadillac policy,a little over 25k a year. Even those with it won’t be able to afford it for long. In ten years it will be 30-35k a year. Wages have barely moved (except for government workers) for 15 years. I don’t know what the solution is but i do know prices are accelerating upwards under odumbocare. We’re pre subsidizing all the new people to be covered. Of course the fact that we’ve been giving away this valuable commodity to illegals for a few decades now is not helping.
I know a guy that just had a 6.5 hour heart operation and there were like 5 people present in the room including the surgeon, during the procedure. The crooks at the hospital charged the insurance crooks $1,500,000...for 6.5 hours work...hehehe.
He told me they could have paid the surgeon and his 4 assistants $10,000 per freaking hour, and it still would have been WAY cheaper, at about $350,000.
These people are living in a dream world..
COBRA is in NY & CT over $1,000 a month. Its a big nut for someone unemployed. This is not about conservative or liberal or whatever. It’s reality. I’m not advocating anything here. You give an example of one type of person who is ignoring responsibility. How about the person who never made a really good living and lives within their means. It’s not being conservative to look at one side and not the other. That’s what libs do.
That's $10,000 per hour, for EACH ONE!!
You know insurance is what in the end drives up medical costs. Who’s being charged? Not the person being treated but insurance. Insurance has removed any sense of checks and balances. Theres a need for insurance,no doubt, but it’s like some monster from 1950’s sci fi that has to be constantly fed or else it will eat you too.
And who caused that? The same bastar@s that invented Obamacare. And what is the solution. Maybe keeping America in the same shi@ hole will do it. The suffering everyone of us will be tenfold during the next few years and nothing will stop the pain. No such thing as guarantees.
Our entire medical/insurance industry is completely, 100% out of control with their costs and expenses. It’s become absolutely absurd.
Yes, and obamacare is just another nail in the coffin for many businesses and is resulting in more unemployed people...who may need the government! uuummm, planned maybe??
True, but as I said, for those who make a bit too much income, and still have some equity in their home, but lost or had their health insurance reduced or eliminated, or don't happen to have top shelf health insurance, you nothing but a target, who will be beat like drum.
At a recent meeting one major health insurance company said they expect premiums to triple and perhaps go even higher once the mandate is implemented to cover pre-existing conditions. Hold on to your wallet!
Price of medical care has gone up over the years, just as the price of cars, food, housing, etc. — do you want to demand that the government should do something about all that too?
“In 1960 a new house cost $12,700.00 and by 1969 was $15,500.00
In 1960 the average income per year was $5,315.00 and by 1969 was $8,540.00
In 1960 a gallon of gas was 25 cents and by 1969 was 35 cents
In 1960 the average cost of new car was $2,600.00 and by 1969 was $3,270.00 “

And here we are discussing this though some chose to pull the ‘conservative’ card, in a sensible manner. This has sadly become the rare as opposed to the norm.
Tort reform. Healthcare for citizens only. There are so many cost saving possibilities but we get odumbo care. Some smart politician would do well to draw a comparison to giving every illegal that comes into the country as well as their offspring, some gold straight from Fort Knox. Isn’t that after all exactly what we are doing? We are giving away a valuable commodity for nothing.
There are always some people who have been responsible all their lives and fall on hard times through no fault of their own — that is what the “safety net” supposed to be for.
Unfortunately, from what I have seen, a very large fraction of those receiving government aid or counting on government bail out, if they should get sick. They could well afford insurance, if they adjusted their priorities. Those are the ones I was talking about. There are way too many of them, just from what I have seen personally. And some of the posters here are trying to justify irresponsible behavior. They don’t want to give up anything, to make sure that their family has insurance, in case something happens, they feel “entitled”, then they blame Wall Street, insurance companies, everyone, but themselves.
I know you're a little slow, can't stand the truth, and are completely detached from reality, but where did I say I wanted "government" to do something about medical care? If you could be specific.
The reason medical care is so expensive, is because hospitals can’t turn anyone away, and those who have insurance have to pay for the medical costs of people without insurance, many of whom don’t have insurance because they want to spend the money on other things, so they are freeloading on the responsible people, who buy insurance.
