Praziquantel is Droncit
and it is what will kill tapeworm
Panacure does not , it only helps control them.
Technically, ALL wormers just “control” infestations.
That’s why they’re given at set intervals.
One dose -kills- the adult worms but does not necessarily eradicate the unhatched eggs or larvae.
The second dose knocks off *that* bunch, who are now adults [approximately 21 days, depending on species/known life cycle] and then you start all over again.
Monthly wormers, at best, keep any potential “load” to a minimum which the dog’s body can manage.
Droncit must be an alternate brand name for what I buy.
So, Panacur *does* kill tapeworms as well as any wormer kills any worm.
Whereas Panacur is, as its name implies, an all around anthelmintic, Praziquantel is a specialized wormer which removes both of the most commonly encountered tape worm varieties, hopefully more effectively but I know people who had to go through several courses of it due to unhatched eggs popping up as adults a few weeks later.
[specifically, dogs who ate the rabbits they’d caught]
Semantics aside, why are we even belaboring this?
My point was and still is, worm your dogs responsibly and regularly.
Obviously, you already do.
