Elementary school curriculum isn't just about the three R's any more. Reading, 'Riting and 'Rithmetic now have to make time for lessons in gender diversity and for nosy questionnaires that lead kids into teen sex and illegal drug usage.
Students in all grades at Oakland, California's Redwood Heights Elementary School were given two days of gender diversity lessons designed to teach them that gender is not confined to the "binary concept" of two options. The lessons promoted "gender neutrality," the concept that no distinctions between male and female should be legally allowed.
These lessons were taught by an anti-bullying group called Gender Spectrum and paid for by a $1,500 grant from the California Teachers Union. The course featured all-girl geckos and transgender clownfish.
The major message was that "gender identity" means people can choose to be different from the sex assigned at birth and can freely "change their sex." According to Gender Spectrum, "Gender identity is a spectrum where people can be girls, feel like girls, they feel like boys, they feel like both, or they can feel like neither." Kindergartners were introduced to this new subject by asking them to identify toys that are a "girl toy" or a "boy toy" or both, and whether they like the color pink. They were read a story called "My Princess Boy."
Fourth-graders were told that if someone were born with male "private parts" but identified more with being a girl, he should be "accepted" and "respected." They were taught "gender fluidity," which means a boy might be a boy one day and a girl the next.
The Oakland School District personnel were apparently proud of this course because they allowed Fox News to audit and report on these lessons. District spokesman Troy Flint said that gender identity lessons are required by school board policy and supported by federal, state and local law as a means to support "equity" and a safe classroom environment.
The lessons seem more likely to confuse the kids about who they are and, indeed, Gender Spectrum boasted that its goal is to confuse the children and make them question traditional ideas about who is a boy and who is a girl. It is not surprising that many parents were upset when they heard about the two-day course.
Some of the bills now pending in the California State Assembly indicate that these gender neutrality notions may become the new normal curriculum in California public schools. Gender Spectrum is determined to make children think that boy and girl don't mean anything anymore, and that it's no longer normal to believe people are born male or female or have different roles.
The California State Assembly is considering changes to 34 statutes by redefining gender to include a person's own "gender expression," and passed AB 887 on May 17, which prohibits any discrimination against the "transgendered." Among its predictable effects is that employers can be forbidden to require men to dress like men.
We wonder why anyone is surprised at this Left Coast nonsense, because university women's studies courses have for years taught that the obvious differences we observe between males and females are not a natural occurrence but are a social construct due to conditioning by parents and traditional social norms. It's a misunderstanding of the feminist movement to think it was ever about equality for women; it always advocated the interchangeability of men and women and an end to what they lambaste as gender "stereotyping."
Memorial Middle School in Fitchburg, Massachusetts featured another type of classroom atrocity: requiring pupils to answer nosy questions that are not only intrusive but designed to lead the kids into unacceptable behaviors. The survey, called the Youth Risk Behavior Survey, was created by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which also provided the funding for it to be administered.
One question asked: "The last time you had sexual intercourse, what one method did you or your partner use to prevent pregnancy? ... A. I have never had sexual intercourse; B. No method was used to prevent pregnancy; C. Birth control pills; D. Condoms; E. Depo-Provera (or any injectable birth control), Nuva Ring (or any birth control ring), Implanon (or any implant), or any IUD; F. Withdrawal; G. Some other method; H. Not sure."
Here are a couple more leading questions: "During your life, how many times have you used methamphetamines (also called speed, crystal, crank, or ice)?" "During the past 30 days, how many times did you sniff glue, breathe the contents of aerosol spray cans, or inhale any paints or sprays to get high?"
The Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment makes such interrogation of students illegal without prior parental consent, which the school did not have. Some parents have appealed to the Rutherford Institute, and we wish them success in stopping the school from asking elementary school children such nosy questions
Everything connected to government must be amputated if we're to survive. God is out! Satan and perversion are IN!
This is already familiar news, but still another reason...
This is why I thank God that I am now in my senior years.
Today’s culture is so foreign to my days in Ms Abernathy’s second grade class, in Memphis. (1951)
It is like another planet.
“Todays culture is so foreign to my days in Ms Abernathys second grade class, in Memphis. (1951)It is like another planet”
It does seem like another planet, doesn’t it? My daughter is now 22. When she was in high school, which was not all that long ago, I protested the enactment of what the school called. “Gay Day of Silence.” I even called the American CEnter for Law and Justice, a CHristian legal lobbying group, who told me that unfortunately there was nothing they could do. This event had students and teachers, empathetic to the alleged “plight” of homosexuals, not speaking, an act meant to symbolize the ridiculous assertion that gays cannot speak about their identity. My complaint to the school was that by allowing teachers to participate the school was, in essence, denigrating the religious beliefs of those who held homosexuality as incompatible with their faith. I received the bureaucratic run around, being passed from person to person at the school. The assistant principal was down right rude to me, asserting that I was in fact bigoted. They ultimately referred me to the teacher advisor of the GLBT or whatever that acronym is, group at that school who tried to persuade me to see the error of my ways. THe bottom line is that despite your religious beliefs, the schools are dedicated to anti Christian practices whenever they arise. True, they would rather steer clear of all religious discussion, but their real bugaboo is the Christian church and its accompanying morals.
Conservatives! Government schools are our nation's MOST dangerous threat! I seriously mean it! Remove your own children. Work to see that every child in this nation has access to a PRIVATE, **conservative**, and **thoroughly** Judeo-Christian based educational setting!
We have proven that we can withstand severe economic set backs, a major terrorist attack, and even loss of an entire city due to a natural disaster,...but...we will NOT survive the Marxist and perverted GODLESS indoctrination of the next generations of voters in our government schools!!!
Hey, folks...it’s a big, bad world out there. Someday, I may be the job interviewer for these products of the education system.
Reason I’m a Meanie #1 - No matter how satisfied your child is with his/her “gender identity”, if the resume is poorly written with typos and spelling errors, it ends up in the shredder. Ditto for resumes that are not concise and give me no indication of what the kid can do or wants to do.
Reason I’m a Meanie #2 - I don’t really care how satisfied your child is with displaying his/her “gender fluidity”, if he/she shows up for the interview with clothing or appearance that will be off-putting to the average customer, some other kid will get the job.
Reason I’m a Meanie #3 - The kid may know about every sexual practice under the sun, but if they have not taken the time to do any basic research about my company before the interview, guess what - another kid will get the job.
No one walks into my office entitled to that job, and if I sense that attitude, he/she won’t be working here. And mom, don’t call me up to ask why your little princess did not get the job (yes, this really happened.) I will be as diplomatic as possible, but you won’t get a “happy” answer.
So parents, your child may be the most sexually “grounded” individual on the face of the earth as society sees it, but if they don’t have a basic communication skills (that old-fashioned reading and writing stuff) and reasonable societal skills, I won’t turn them loose on my customers. Enjoy their presence in your basement until they are well into adulthood.
Of course, you could always take an interest in what they are REALLY learning in the public school system, and maybe help your kid fill in the gaps, but that would take some effort.
Now let’s be fair. We all know that schools are not doing their jobs very well because they aren’t getting enough money. We all need to support higher taxes at all levels to support education. If only these good people weren’t being held hampered by stingy Republicans and greedy rich people.
“It does seem like another planet, doesnt it.”

I am starting to think that God designed us to live only so many years.
I can not imagine growing up in today’s world.
Guys, follow a libtard who supports this stupidity into the "Ladies" room and see what happens.
You seem to be a bit obsessed with SEX. Why is that?
Is that all kids k-12 think about now?
Yea, when I was in senior high, I knew a bit about sex, but that was in the 50s, and only something to wish for in the future, not that we did not try our damnedest to cop a feal at the drive in theater.
Could it be that you, as many counselors, have just thrown in the towel?
I was responding to the article, the gist of which is that schools are teaching the kids about sexual issues and practices, to the detriment of teaching them actual skills.
I have not thrown in the towel; there are still plenty of impressive young people out there. It’s a joy to work with them.
All things being equal, however, the kid who shows up in my office with actual communication skills will get the job, vice the kid with the comprehensive knowledge of sexual issues and practices. I think the schools are selling the kids short. There is a finite time of amount that young people are at the stage in life to learn, and it is being squandered on useless “feel-good” baloney. That’s my point.

Yes, I fully respect a pro, such as yourself, trying to
keep America’s youth on track.
I just see such depravity in America today.
I do not see how professionals, such as yourself, can
deal with something that is so foreign to me.
Today is so unlike when I was growing up.
My grandfather was educated in a one room schoolhouse in rural North Carolina by one teacher responsible for teaching 12 grades at the same time. He had a better education, and was more well read, than most of the products of today’s school system. He was also very comfortable with his masculinity.
And what, exactly, does this curriculum have to do with bullying?
People have been trying to bring the issue of bullying front and center for years. It has led, in some cases, to the victim committing suicide; short of suicide, its negative impact on the victim is lifelong. But have the reports of the emotional damage and occasional suicide ever inspired these public school officials to do anything? No, they were content to look the other way on bullying until some gay kid committed suicide as a result. Then, and only then, did bullying become a problem they were concerned about. Well, not really concerned--it seems that they saw an opportunity to propagandize sexual deviancy to kids in the guise of anti-bullying education.
I feel for those parents. Unfortunately, in most school districts, about the only people who vote in the school related elections are some of the parents in the district--leaving the school boards wide open for activists to flood the ballot boxes for their selected candidate (and without even committing vote fraud, in this case).
This is as good a place as any to vent about my sons school 3rd & 4th grade Play. Called Joust a musical version of the Sword & the Stone. The first thing I noticed that there were two stones on stage. One with a sword, the other with a cardboard tube. Making a long story short, Arthur chose the cardboard tube and all the nights traded their swords in for the same tubes because of the prodding of the damsels who said they would not cook and clean for them if they didnt. Then came the French invasion, but they had flutes instead of swords because of the same prodding they got from the French maidens. Then the English and French made music with the flutes and cardboard tubes. The End.
An anti-war message , ya think?
I would have written a third act. The Scotts sack England, burn the set, and carry off the screaming damsels.
“Today is so unlike when I was growing up.”
Indeed it is! As time goes by, I have a lot more “facepalm” moments than I ever thought I would. But if we reward the responsible kids, with jobs and promotions when they merit them, maybe something will sink in with their not-so-responsible peers...
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Why does anyone keep their kids in these schools?
It really is time to remove your son. Just as in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, the schools are run by “Teacher Ratchets” who are determined to emasculate little boys. The agenda is equally harmful for the girls as well.
Yes, I hear that parents try to undo the damage when the children are at home,...BUT....while in school the children MUST and WILL learn to think in this godlessly anti-male manner merely to cooperate with the classroom instruction, utilize their textbooks, and complete assignments.
“THe bottom line is that despite your religious beliefs, the schools are dedicated to anti Christian practices whenever they arise.”
This has been an on going issue for decades...in fact I can find references to this thought process in John Dewey's (father of modern public education) “Pedagogic Creed” that dates back to 1897. That is why it is amazing to me that we still have conservatives, let alone Christians, that will turn their children over to these people to be “educated”. My hope is that parents will wake up the the harm that they are doing to their own children as well as the culture as a whole and pull their children out of public education. If all of the conservatives and Christians would do this by next school year the entire public education system would collapse...
