Japan Prime Minister to Face 30 Pct Pay Cut
Tokyo, June 3 (Jiji Press)--The Japanese government said Friday it will cut the prime minister's monthly pay by 30 pct as part of proposed cuts in the salaries of national public servants.
The government will also cut salaries by 20 pct for other cabinet ministers and senior vice ministers and 10 pct for parliamentary secretaries, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said at a press conference.
The pay cuts will take effect once a bill on reducing salaries for national public servants is enacted. The cuts will be in place until the end of March 2014.
The legislation stipulates that the monthly pay of the prime minister be reduced to some 1.44 million yen from 2.06 million yen.
But Prime Minister Naoto Kan has earlier unveiled plans to return all the allowances as prime minister, excluding the salary he receives as a member of the Diet, or parliament, starting this month until the nuclear crisis is brought under control.

P!
Washington are you listening???
Ya, we have not been hit by a natural disaster. But our economy is on the ropes and spending needs to be cut.
The govt. will get it all back when they succeed in raising the consumption tax from 5 to 10% . Every purchase ( inc. food , clothing ...) , service ( inc hospital bills ) or rental ( inc. housing ) in Japan is taxed . IOW everything is taxed .
