Poor Mitt Romney! He missed the bus, again
Boston Herald ^ | 6/3/11 | Howie Carr

Posted on 06/03/2011 12:36:08 AM PDT by raccoonradio

Mitt Romney got beaten up by a girl yesterday.

OK, so it’s not PC to call the former governor of Alaska a girl, but you know what I mean. Sarah Palin big-footed Romney big-time, not to mention Rudy Giuliani, who last night was in Dover, N.H., where he couldn’t have gotten arrested even if he’d tried. But for Palin, yesterday was mostly about putting a pie in Mitt’s face.

As one of my listeners put it: “Romney has RomneyCare. Palin has no PalinCare. Advantage: Palin.”

Poor Mitt. She hit him over the head like he was one of those giant halibut she occasionally gaffs on her Alaska reality TV series.

Mitt came across like one of those French generals before World War II, building the Maginot Line, preparing for the last war. He was going to prove he was hep (as opposed to hip). Why, he watches “American Idol,” whose ratings have gone down faster this year than Anthony Weiner’s trousers. And he reads the “Twilight” series. One of Mitt’s consultants should tell him, if he wants to be Ronald Reagan, he should remember that Dutch read Zane Grey and Louis L’Amour, not some girly stuff.

Even if you like Mitt, you have to admit it’s amusing how Palin upstaged him yesterday. Mitt’s the establishment guy this year, and since 2008 the only people who have treated Palin worse than the GOP bosses are the mainstream media.

And for once the Karl Roves and the Comrade Chris Matthews agree on one thing — how stupid Sarah is, as if there’s a brain surgeon in the White House now. Apparently Palin is so stupid that she realizes she can get free TV by stopping for a few minutes in the North End. She’s so dumb she does a video interview with this newspaper, which is what Republican primary voters in New Hampshire read when they’re not checking out the Union Leader.

Sarah Palin is so clueless she even had a clambake scheduled at 7 p.m. last night in Seabrook, so that Carl Cameron from the Fox News Channel would have somewhere to do his liveshot from.

Where was Mitt? Playing back the video of his earlier appearance, sans tie of course, in which he promises to repeal ObamaCare. Mixed message, anyone?

So in the past 96 hours of her bus tour, Palin has bonded with the following constituencies: Harley-Davidson owners, Donald Trump fans, pizza lovers, Italian-Americans, Comedy Central viewers, Ellis Island history buffs, to name a few. And the whole “one nation” tour cost her, what, $100,000?

On top of everything else, she had the mainstream media complaining she’s been mean to them by not giving them a full itinerary. Boo-hoo. Only Anthony Weiner prevented her from totally owning the week.

Look on the bright side Mitt. It only gets better from here.

Howie Carr thread

And I thought Howie and Mitt were pals...

“In the summer of 2003, I was approached, informally, by a representative of Governor Mitt Romney about becoming a member of the board of trustees at the University of Massachuetts, along with, according to press reports, Professor Dershowitz and retired judge E. George Daher, the first man to refer to Billy Bulger as a ‘corrupt midget’. I immediately said that if offered the position of trustee, I would accept it. Shortly after he was informed of the likely appointment of the three of us to his board, Billy resigned as president of the university. Others were then appointed to the UMass board of trustees.”

hardcover edition)

Palin states she didn’t intend to upstage Romney, and that the purpose of the bus tour isn’t to test the waters for a Presidential bid, but to highlight American history:

So, I believe her. Hmm... What’s she up to? Sounds to me like she really hasn’t decided.

If it comes down to Romney being the front runner, though, I personally can’t imagine her just sitting on the sidelines. If we get a good strong conservative candidate that she can really support, I can imagine her possibly not running.

If we don’t, I say she’s in.

Could go either way, she could run or not but for now at least she’s attracting attention.

Romney could be the choice of establishment Republicans AND independents/ unenrolleds who take a Republican ballot (in states like MA). RINO? Well, our 2008 candidate wasn’t exactly Mr. Conservative, for the same reason(s)... (but again do remember, folks, that had it not been for McCain
we might be saying, “Sarah Who?” now...)

Nonsense. Some of us have been following Gov. Palin since she was a promising up-and-comer as Mayor of Wasilla and knew she had "superstar" written all over her. She would've been a top-tier candidate for President by 2012 even had McCain not chosen her for his running mate (the difference being, she'd not have been harrassed out of the Governorship in time in an attempt to discredit her).

I think you are wrong that without mccain she would be nowhere. Sarah was ooming onto the radar before mccain picked her. I was paying attention to her LONG before mccain even knew who she was...and some other people of note were as well. Sarah Palin is a HAPPENING. Nothing would have changed that.

Like this one:

Why couldn’t Romney see it coming and delay it a few days or a week?

No, but I’m sure his illegal maid from Guatemala knows. It’s near the place where she picks up gallons of his Dapper Dan Pomade.

I like Palin, but if she wasn’t VP nominee she wouldn’t be a front runner. What could’ve happened to make her famous between 08 and 11? Now, if she ran, people would’ve gotten to know her and like her, but at this point in the 12 race, she’d be largely unknown.

It would’ve been a different situation, but she still would’ve been a top tier candidate. In that instance, she’d be a successful and outspoken Governor into her 2nd term, and our most prominent woman in such an office. Since most of us tend to look to Governors for leaders (and for Presidents), she’d have been a natural. She had been, of course, largely ignored by the media (as they tend to do with those who aren’t White males in the GOP), and would never have been the central focus for destruction (or rather, they wouldn’t have had enough time to do so, which was redoubled with great effort AFTER the ‘08 election in order to make her thoroughly unviable for ‘12, which has failed).

Well, does the GOP establishment like her now? Does the MSM like her now? Why would the GOP establishment and the MSM like her more if she wasn’t the VP nominee.

Yes, she’d be a successful ..., and our most, and all that.
If the MSM didn’t like her, they wouldn’t have destroyed her, they just would’ve ignored her. They wouldn’t have run her up the flagpole, if they didn’t like her. She’d be more ex Louisiana Governor Buddy Roemer (not mentioned at all by anyone) and less like ex Utah Governor Jon Huntsman (treated like a serious candidate almost a frontrunner in delusionland.) Why is one Governor not mentioned and another treated like a frontrunner. Because those are the prepicked acceptable candidates. Palin wouldn’t have been one. If she had run in 12 (and wasn’t VP nom), she certainly could’ve won a lot of fans in the process of running, but she would’ve had a very large name recognition deficiency. Would’ve ended up in a better place for a later race. At this point in the race she’d be pretty low in the polls.
