I dunno...I’ve heard more than one vet recommendation for a small dose of Benadryl to animals of various sorts with respiratory symptoms. Not sure about being used as a tranquilizer, but I do know a tiny pinch dissolved in a rat’s water bottle was supposedly quite helpful.

No, I don’t know how it worked, or why, and for all I know it was simply voodoo and the final dose was meaninglessly tiny. I do know the rat’s owner swore the vet told her to do it and the rat seemed immensely more comfortable after.

My wife says that benedryl can be safely used on animals. You learn something new every day.

Benadryl is often used for dogs, esp to treat allergies (I’ve used it, in fact it was especially helpful after snakebite). It might be likely to make a show dog sleepy and not show well. Not sure what the other drug would do.
I saw this article previously (not here) and some things in the article sounded like this guy may or may not have done what he’s accused of. You have to remember, show people can act like kids, accusing each other of all sorts of things. I don’t know what the history with these people is, but it’s possible that there is a history of things, and who knows the background. I wouldn’t be too quick to believe either one of them.
And the dog could have easily gotten the drugs off the floor or anywhere on the show grounds. They could have fallen out of someone’s pocket or purse, etc. I’ve had my dogs suck up the oddest things (and if you have dogs you know exactly what I mean!).

I got pups for Christmas, and they would sometimes whine and bark at night. A friend recommended Benedryl. I gave them the pill specifically for kids, and it worked like a charm.

I no longer want to strangle my dogs at 3 am, which is a good thing.

Allergy meds like Benadryl usually warn about drowsiness, so that makes sense.

From her first rabies vac, my one dog had a bad reaction. So for the renewal of rabies and one of the other vacs, the vet has me dose the dog 50mg at thirty minutes before the shot, and then I think it’s every 4-6 hours after for the day.
