A gay softball organization that runs an annual tournament called the Gay Softball World Series can keep its rule limiting the number of heterosexual players on each team, a federal judge has ruled.
The decision came in a lawsuit filed by three men who say they were disqualified from the annual tournament because they weren't gay enough. They said in the suit filed last year that their team's second-place finish in the 2008 tournament in Washington state was nullified because they are bisexual, not gay, and thus their team exceeded the limit of two non-gay players.
U.S. District Judge John Coughenour said Tuesday that their suit can proceed to trial. But he also ruled that the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance, which also oversees gay softball leagues in dozens of U.S. cities, has a First Amendment right to limit the number of heterosexual players, much as the Boy Scouts have a constitutional right to exclude gays.

Yeah, but will they allow switch hitters? (Apologies to the great Reggie Smith)
This is the stuff that the Ninth Circus concerns itself with.
How would they know which players were....oh never mind. I don’t want to know.
Maybe it has something to do with their grip on the bat?
Two questions: 1) What heterosexual male wants to play in a homosexual league, and 2) what would the court decide were this a heterosexual league wanting to exclude homos?
And we won’t talk about getting a base on balls.
Biff: “You throw like a girl.”
Vincent: “Thanks. My dugout or yours?”
Beat me to it!
I was wondering about the switch-hitter quota too - lol
So much for embracing diversity.
Nope; just pitchers, catchers, and ballboys.
I can only answer the first question: gays in the closet.
The second is moot, as anybody proposing such a thing would be jailed outright.
Certainly puts a different meaning to the guys piling on each other when they win the World Series, though.
This would be hilarious if it weren’t so sad.
Only in SF. Who in their right mind would sue to get on a gay team. I revolt at the very thought of what you would have to do to try out for the team!!!!!!
I know. Seriously.
what would the court decide were this a heterosexual league wanting to exclude homos?
Oh it would be a hate crime for sure! Those hateful Heterosexuals!
How many liars are allowed on each team?
Ahh... another lesson in liberal tolerance for us to take in.
The team with the straight players was from SF. The team who filed the injunction is not clarified in the report, but I believe they are from the Seattle area.
You won’t find me within miles of a gay softball league...
